The Winds that Lift Us Towards the Stars

I wrote this piece when I was at my lowest. In April of 2022, I was in class when I got a call saying “Mom collapsed and stopped breathing, they got her stable, but you need to hurry home.” She suffered from what could only be described as a cardiac episode and spent a month between the hospital and rehab.

This song is about her incident: The heart falling out of rhythm; the CPR; etc. It’s also about the wave of love we received. We would not have been able to overcome without the constant support of friends, family, and the community. 

This piece is dedicated to our community. You lifted us up so we could reach our dream of recovery. YOU are the winds that lift us towards the stars!
