Prodigal is a musical interpretation of the struggles we face in choosing right or wrong. Humanity often finds itself at a crossroads between good and evil. While we always try to choose the good path, temptations and influences cause us to choose evil, falling short of what is right.
Prodigal uses mirrored single alternating strokes, syncopation, and traditional hymns and chants to comment on the struggle of free will. Fragments of “Nothing But The Blood” and “Dies Irae” can be heard throughout the piece, representing the conflict between good and evil.
This piece is dedicated to Andrea Venet and Brian Blume! Your courage to write Christian-themed compositions inspired me to compose Prodigal.
