Built off the Artemis Landscape material, the SOMNi Landscape Material has been made to allow people to experiment with, and understand, how materials like these work. The base material you download is directly based off Chapter 2, but with correct usage of parameters you can make it your own quite quickly.
Keep in mind that this material isn't trying to be accurate to a specific Fortnite chapter / season but it is heavily inspired by Chapters 2 and 3.
For those using a previous version of the SOMNi Landscape Material; I suggest updating to this version as, on top of the new parameters, it is more optimized and features better material logic overall.
By default, the cliffs are pretty much the same ones used during CH2. However, you can tune them to your liking, and switch between CH2 and CH3 blending with a single switch!
A fake RVT function that projects the landscape's paints onto the world and that can be applied to any material easily. VST is strongly recommended for grass blades!
The snow, by default a paint layer, interacts in a very particular way with other layers. There's also support for snow masks.
Some paints have foliage of their own! Not shown here is Sand & Snow which both have some subtle VFX spawned on them.
Cliffs are hard to get right... personally I'm a fan of lighter tones, but there's a parameter so you can mess with the colors! You can also change the cliffs' textures yourself.
Performance mode / mobile preview. If you don't like the grass foliage being there for these rendering modes, you can either turn it off or enable the lower density foliage group setup I made.
In the material there are 8 grass masks bundled in so you can change the look of the grass blades!
Modular terrain mesh supported! - In the first image, left is Epic's material, Right is mine.
There's also a material included here that supports vertex paint!
gone.... sealed away for ever.. oh wait he's back :D
For modular terrain / static meshes, there's a material you should use instead of applying the landscape material.
The snow reacts to the directional light of the TODM / DSA. You can turn this off, and I recommend doing so if you're using a custom TODM and don't know how to set up the proper MPC for this.
Other features included but not shown here:
Biome mask support.
12 Landscape Paint layers* + 4 Foliage Exclusive Layers. (* There's two more, actually, but you must add them in manually yourself: "SwampFloor" & "WavySand")
7 - 12% Project size. Depends on your landscape actor, usage of layers, amount of instances, amount of parent materials.......
Optimized for mobile / performance mode. (Note that the number 1 priority for these platforms was PERFORMANCE, some sacrifices had to be made!)
