Are there any requirements to join Gator Figure Skating?
All Gator Figure Skating team members must be current, registered members of U.S. Figure Skating in order to be eligible to compete. Otherwise, Gator Figure Skating welcomes all levels of skaters, with no membership necessary, if you decide you do not want to be competitive. All we require of skaters is that they have a pair of their own skates and are at a level that they have used freestyle ice before.

Are rental skates allowed? 

The Community First Igloo does not allow rental skates on freestyle sessions unless you are in a lesson. Due to the rink being in Jacksonville, the club does not carpool for public sessions.

When and how often are Gator Figure Skating practices?

Our practices take place at Community First Ice Arena in Jacksonville. Weekly carpools will be offered by our active members on GroupMe. Drivers will post events and skaters can sign up. Skaters can sign up for rides anytime ice is available and someone is offering a ride. Practices are not mandatory. 

How do Gator skaters get to practice?

Carpools are offered for skaters through Gator Figure Skating. It takes approximately an hour and a half to get to the rink, as it is located in Jacksonville, and not Gainesville.

Does Gator Figure Skating have opportunities for USFSA testing and/or coaching?

Gator Figure Skating does not provide USFSA testing opportunities directly, but skaters can take advantage of the ice time, coaches, and testing sessions offered at Community First Igloo, as long as they are a member of U.S. Figure Skating.

Are there dues?

No dues! This is a registered student organization at UF, and therefore no dues are required. 

What are Gator Figure Skating active member requirements?

Active members attend carpools regularly.

Do I have to compete?

There is no requirement to compete. Experienced skaters with a strong desire to join our team as practice-only members, is permitted. However, while the Gator Figure Skating Club is primarily non-competitive and recreational, skaters can sign up for: 

• U.S. Collegiate Championship s & Invitational (open for all Gator Figure skaters to participate in) 

• Held annually at the end of the summer. Anyone skating in Junior and Senior combined events, has the chance to win a one-time monetary scholarship if they place in the top 3, but all other levels are also available.
