What kind of world do we want to live in
Where the people assembled are told to be quiet
Where constitutional protections are labeled a riot
Where minorities are questioned and told not to fight it
Where the nation’s flagship of freedom can’t seem to right it
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where books are banned and education restricted
Where the voice of the people is constantly constricted
Where virtues of peace and vices of power battle conflicted
Where corruption, abuse and over-reach are inflicted
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where skin color forces a family to hide
Where fear tries to keep all the peaceful warriors inside
Where humanity suffers on a toxic roller-coaster ride
Where society realizes it FAR past time to choose sides
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where free speech becomes a warning of death
Where governmental forces pull freedoms down to the depths
Where many citizens wonder just what hope they have left
Where “I’m not mad at you” becomes a woman’s last breath
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where we stand united forever to never be divided
Where we speak for those who fear they’re being silenced
Where we stress the importance of patience, love, support and guidance
Where we see truths for those temporarily blinded
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where we protect our neighbors by speaking up in their defense
Where we protect our loved ones by showing up with common sense
Where we protect our communities with respect and human reverence
Where we protect our freedoms because “the Constitution says.”
What kind of world we do want to live in
Where we don’t see or assign labels of left or right
Where we don’t follow the political or social stereotypes
Where we don’t discriminate based on impressions at first sight
Where we don’t fall under parties but under humans, citizens, living lights
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where our children look back and ask us “what did you fight for?”
Where we look ourselves in the mirror and wonder if we could have done more
Where future generations lament if we learned from what came before
Where we stand together as Americans forevermore.
What kind of world do we want to live in
Where we decide that the future depends on what we do today
Where we use our voices to call out, speak up and pray
Where we keep finding the courage to stand up and not go away
Where we as a nation continue the (stand) mantra
“We are the PEOPLE of the UNITED states.”
