The founder, architect, and educator of Gathering Gems is Hannah Taylor.
Hannah grew up in Emmett, graduating from Emmett High School in 2007 and graduating from Boise State University in 2012 with a Bachelors in Elementary Education.
She married her high school sweetheart, James, and they have 3 children (Billie-10, Michael-8, and Lyla-3). She taught Kindergarten in Emmett but retired to be a stay-at-home mom.
When Hannah was teaching Kindergarten, she was already thinking that she could teach her own children rather than sending them to public school. A few thoughts she had to motivate her to this were:
I can build a better curriculum than this.
I can be more efficient with classroom time.
I would like to spend more time with my children.
Have you felt any of the above with raising your children? If yes, we agree and we are here for you.
After homeschooling for a couple of years, Hannah was looking for opportunities for social events and creating community. When she couldn’t find any opportunities in the Emmett valley, she decided to start one herself.
Gathering Gems is now where Hannah gets the opportunity to still homeschool her children but supplement their education with these courses.
What to like about Hannah:
Hannah is currently homeschooling her 2 older children
Hannah is a previously Certified Teacher. She has taken what she liked from the public school system and her university education, but researched and replaced what didn’t work with family first passion and practices.
Hannah looks to grow this homeschool class to continue her kid’s educational and social needs.
Mrs. RaeLyn grew up in Emmett and brought her husband back here after they graduated from Bible college in Cincinnati, Ohio. She always knew she wanted to be a teacher ever since she was a little girl. RaeLyn has worked in public schools for 12 years and decided to make a change so she can spend more time with her family. She likes to go strift store shopping, read, and bake in her spare time. RaeLyn is looking forward to meeting new faces and teaching some new classes this year!
Mrs. Jamie is Hannah's mom. She has many years experience teaching preschool and has always worked with kids. She and her husband enjoy camping and fishing. Jamie always has a project going, whether with crocheting, sewing, baking, or another something crafty. She is excited to teach our younger class and spend more time with her grandkids who attend Gathering Gems.
