Postdoctoral Associate Positions

The Gateman Research Group is seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Associate to join our multidisciplinary team in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Western Ontario. The project is in collaboration with Ontario Power Generator (OPG) to investigate localized corrosion mechanisms of relevant alloys for small modular reactor (SMR) infrastructure. It will focus on stainless steels and Ni-based metals undergoing stress and radiation and will provide opportunities to directly interact with the industry partner.

The successful candidate will be responsible for performing multiscale electrochemical corrosion measurements. It is expected that (s)he will have demonstrated expertise in electrochemistry and corrosion science, obtained over multiples year of experience (including electrochemical methods and immersion testing). It is also preferred for candidates to have experience with analytical instrumentation including scanning electrochemical probe microscopy as well as with characterizing corroded surfaces via SEM/EDX, XPS, Raman spectroscopy, and profilometry.

It is essential that the candidate holds strong written and oral communication skills, as demonstrated by peer-reviewed journal publications and (inter)national conference presentations. Mentorship experience is advantageous as (s)he is expected to mentor graduate students in experimental corrosion chemistry. Frequent interaction with group members is anticipated, which will involve the preparation and submission of journal articles, presentations, and research reports in a timely manner.

Application Details

This position requires a minimum of a PhD in chemistry (analytical, physical, or materials), or a related discipline and a strong record of publications/patents. The appointment will commence for initially one year (with the possibility of renewal) and will begin as soon as possible. The compensation package includes 50,000 CAD per annum + benefits.
