Origins of Gastronomy
One of the first individuals to truly define "gastronomy" was 18th-century French lawyer and gourmet food connoisseur Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin. He is famously known for his quote: “Tell me what you eat, and I will tell you who you are.” His book The Physiology of Taste (La Physiologie du goût) explores his ideologies of food and its relation to society.
