My name is Gary Richards. I am currently serving as the Junior High and High School Science teacher at Hampton High School, where I’ve had the privilege of teaching for the past 26 years. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I am an active member of our School Improvement Committee and serve on the Leadership Team.
Beyond the classroom, I proudly sponsor several student programs, including Elementary and Junior High Robotics, High School Quiz Bowl, and High School Drones. I have taken the initiative to launch both robotics and drone programs at our school, and I’m proud to say that Hampton is one of the few schools in Nebraska actively competing in these innovative areas. Originally from Montana, I earned my undergraduate degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, and began my teaching career in South Texas in 1989. After eight years of teaching and coaching in San Perlita, TX, I moved to Nebraska, where I taught high school science at Sutton Public School before settling at Hampton. I also hold a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Peru State College.
Outside of the classroom, I stay active with my four children, ranging in age from 13 to 26, and enjoy coaching my youngest child’s basketball team, playing piano, and participating in family events. I initially pursued a premed path but switched to teaching after a transformative experience while presenting a chemistry lesson to my peers. Now, with extensive experience in education, I am seeking to transition into an administrative role. I am eager to leverage my experience and leadership to positively impact a school district, fostering an environment where all stakeholders can thrive.
