Hi, I’m Gary Enrique Bradley-Lopez, and I’m proud to be running for the Kansas City Board of Public Utilities.
As a 26-year-old teacher, husband, and father of three, I’ve dedicated my life to serving my community. I’ve experienced firsthand the challenges that so many in Kansas City face—like the time my family was left in the dark because of an $80 utility bill. That moment shaped my commitment to ensuring no one in our community has to endure that kind of struggle.
I’ve built my career on leadership and advocacy. With an Associate of Arts in Theater, a BA in Communication, and a Master’s in Organizational Leadership, I’ve worked as a community organizer, in higher education, and in community engagement. These experiences have taught me the importance of listening to diverse voices and driving solutions that uplift everyone.
Why I’m Running
Kansas City deserves affordable, reliable, and sustainable utilities. I’m running to bring fresh leadership to the Board of Public Utilities and to fight for:
Lower Utility Costs: Families and small businesses shouldn’t have to choose between keeping the lights on and other essentials.
Transparency: Residents deserve clear communication and accountability from the BPU.
Sustainability & Energy Diversification: It’s time to invest in renewable energy and diversify our energy sources — like solar, wind, and hydro — to keep rates stable, protect our environment, and ensure a stronger future for KCK.
A Vision for Everyone
From students in my classroom struggling to charge their iPads to small business owners burdened by rising costs, I see the challenges our community faces every day. I’m running to be a voice for working families, students, and entrepreneurs—ensuring the BPU serves the people, not the other way around.
Join me in this campaign for a brighter, more affordable future for Kansas City. Together, we can ensure no one is left in the dark.
Advocate for rate structures that protect low-income and fixed-income households.
Expand assistance programs for residents struggling with utility bills.
Promote energy efficiency programs to help customers lower costs.
BPU is already 48% powered by renewable energy, including wind, solar, hydropower, and landfill methane — but we can do even more.
Diversifying our energy sources protects us from price spikes and ensures we’re not dependent on just one fuel like coal or gas.
Clean energy investments create local jobs and long-term savings — it's good for the environment and our economy.
We need to plan for the future — like adding more community solar, battery storage, and microgrid options in KCK.
Support more integration of renewable energy sources like solar and wind.
Push for investments in modern, resilient infrastructure to reduce service disruptions.
Work toward achieving long-term sustainability goals for The Dotte.
Increase public access to BPU decision-making processes through community forums.
Publish easy-to-understand reports on utility spending and performance.
Advocate for regular audits to ensure efficiency and prevent unnecessary rate increases.
Develop partnerships with local organizations to educate residents about energy conservation.
Ensure community voices are heard through regular surveys and advisory panels.
Advocate for workforce development programs to create local jobs in the utility sector.
