If you want reliable low-light visibility and a complete camera unit with built-in illumination for ice fishing, choose GARVALON 720P; if you need a simple protective shield to keep an existing lens clear from mud and debris on a specific Honda model, choose Generic Car Camera Lens. These two items solve fundamentally different problems, yet they often appear in the same search results because both relate to vehicle rear-view optics. I have analyzed the specifications of both products to help you decide which one actually fits your needs without getting lost in marketing fluff.
• GARVALON 720P: Its biggest strength is the integrated 8-LED lighting system that ensures visibility in total darkness or heavy snow, making it ideal for night driving; its trade-off is that it is a standalone camera unit requiring installation rather than a simple add-on part.
• Generic Car Camera Lens: Its primary advantage is the specialized design for the Honda Passport 2026, offering a hard-shell barrier against scratches and road grime; its limitation is that it does not include any imaging capabilities or power source, serving only as a physical cover.
• This comparison pits a functional electronic device designed for capturing video against a passive accessory designed solely for protection.
• Choose the GARVALON 720P if you are building a backup camera system from scratch or replacing a broken unit entirely.
• Choose the Generic Car Camera Lens only if you already own a working camera on a compatible Honda vehicle and simply want to extend its lifespan.
The GARVALON 720P is engineered for drivers who prioritize safety and visibility when conditions turn difficult. The most compelling feature in its data sheet is the inclusion of eight LED lights directly integrated into the housing. In practical terms, this means the camera does not rely solely on ambient light or street lamps to see what is behind the vehicle. When you engage reverse gear in a parking lot at dusk, or worse, in a blizzard during an ice fishing trip, those LEDs provide the necessary illumination to spot obstacles, curbs, or other vehicles that would otherwise be invisible to a standard sensor. This is not just about seeing a little better; it is about having a functional view in near-total darkness.
Construction-wise, this unit is built with PP (polypropylene) materials and features a splashproof design. While no consumer electronics are truly waterproof, the splashproof rating suggests it can handle the slush, salt spray, and rain common in winter driving without failing immediately. The dimensions indicate a compact form factor (approximately 9.84 inches long), which allows it to fit neatly over a license plate area. The manufacturer specifies it operates on 12V power, aligning with standard automotive electrical systems. This makes it a straightforward replacement for older analog cameras or a solid upgrade for vehicles lacking rear vision assistance.
You should buy this product if you need a complete solution that includes the sensor, the housing, and the lighting. It is particularly well-suited for trucks, SUVs, or vans where the rear view is naturally obstructed by cargo or height. However, if you are looking for a high-definition 1080p image, you must note that this unit records in 720p. For many drivers, especially those using the camera primarily for backing up and not for recording dash footage, this resolution is perfectly adequate. If your current camera works fine but has faded LEDs, this unit offers a fresh start with new lighting technology. You should skip this item if you are only looking for a glass protector or if your vehicle requires a specific mounting bracket that this license plate integration does not support.

The Generic Car Camera Lens is a very different beast. It is not a camera at all; it is a lens protector specifically molded for the Honda Passport 2026. Its entire purpose is to act as a shield. In the real world, this means that instead of the actual camera lens getting caked with mud after a drive through a field or splattered with salt on a highway, this hard shell takes the hit. The material boasts superior surface hardness, meaning it resists minor scratches and abrasions that could otherwise obscure the view of your genuine camera underneath.
This product relies on excellent light transmittance, ensuring that the cover itself does not degrade the image quality captured by the camera inside. It is designed to be installed by peeling off an adhesive backing and pressing it firmly onto the surrounding surface. The small footprint (1x1x1 inch) confirms it is a precise overlay component rather than a bulky external device. It is a maintenance item meant to preserve the condition of your existing equipment. The manufacturer lists the brand as "xintian chen," indicating a third-party accessory maker focusing on fitment for specific models.
You should choose this product if you own a Honda Passport 2026 and your factory camera lens is showing signs of wear, or if you live in an area with heavy dust, sand, or gravel roads that frequently damage exposed lenses. It is a cost-effective way to maintain clarity without buying a whole new camera system. However, it is useless if you do not have the specific vehicle model mentioned. It will not work on a Ford, a Toyota, or even a different year of Honda. Furthermore, it offers no new features like night vision or water resistance for the internal sensor; it only protects the front glass. If your camera is already broken or missing, this piece of plastic will not help you see anything. It is strictly a preventative measure for owners of a compatible vehicle.
• Best for Night Driving and Low Light: Choose the GARVALON 720P. The eight built-in LEDs actively illuminate the area behind your car, whereas the generic lens relies entirely on the existing camera's internal sensors and ambient light.
• Best for Specific Vehicle Compatibility: Choose the Generic Car Camera Lens if you own a Honda Passport 2026. The GARVALON unit is a universal-style license plate mount, while the generic protector is custom-molded for a specific chassis.
• Best for Complete Replacement: Choose the GARVALON 720P. It provides the sensor, the housing, the wiring interface (RCA head units), and the power connection. The generic lens assumes you already have a working camera system.
• Best for Scratch Prevention: Choose the Generic Car Camera Lens. Its sole function is to create a barrier against dust, debris, and scratches on the existing lens surface.
• Best for Weather Resistance (Splashproof): Both offer protection, but the GARVALON 720P is rated as splashproof for the entire unit, protecting the internal electronics from rain and slush. The generic lens protects the glass surface but does not change the weather rating of the underlying camera.
• Best for Ice Fishing Scenarios: Choose the GARVALON 720P. The combination of the 720p sensor and active LED lighting makes it far more effective for navigating snowy terrain in the dark than a passive cover.
• Best for Installation Simplicity: The Generic Car Camera Lens requires only peeling and sticking, while the GARVALON 720P involves connecting RCA cables and routing power to the 12V system.
• Best Value for a Missing Camera: If you lack a rear camera entirely, the GARVALON 720P is the only viable option here, as the generic lens adds nothing to a non-existent system.
In my opinion, the GARVALON 720P is the superior choice for anyone needing a functional rear-view system, especially for use cases like ice fishing where visibility is critical. The active lighting provided by the eight LEDs transforms the user experience, turning a blind spot into a visible path even in the deepest winter nights. The Generic Car Camera Lens serves a narrow, specific niche for Honda Passport owners who want to protect their factory equipment, but it cannot replace a camera or improve visibility on its own. If you are torn between buying a new camera versus just a cover, the GARVALON delivers the actual capability to see behind your vehicle.
It is designed to withstand road spray and rain, not being submerged in water.
No, this product is explicitly manufactured for the Honda Passport 2026. It is a custom-fit protector and will not adhere correctly or function on other vehicle makes or models.
Yes, the camera sensor should still capture video, but the 720p image will likely be very dark or unusable in low-light conditions without the 8-LED lights providing the necessary illumination.
The instructions indicate a simple DIY process involving wiping the surface, peeling the adhesive backing, and pressing the protector firmly into place. No tools or wiring are required.
