Surf Data 6 - Surfboard Analysis

This is the sixth installment of the 'Surf Data' series; we will be examining the surfboards I've used.

This data dates back to February 2017, and as of today (August 18th, 2025), there are over 1,700+ surf session entries in the dataset. 

I have recently formalized my code into a Python package (see the repo here)!

Surfboard Context

As a supplement to my surf data, I have recorded (almost) all of the surfboards I've ridden. Note, the numbers in front of each board represent the length. For example, "6-2" refers to 6ft 2in.

• Demo'ed boards

Surfboard Lifetime

The timeline includes each surfboard's usage lifetime (first and last time it was used) and its status (see legend). There are a fair number of unfortunate situations where I broke boards within a few sessions of using them (see the short red bars).

This one is a bit more intuitive! See below :)

There will (eventually) be another plot here that displays the average surfboard height across years!
