Surf Data 4 - 8 Year Summary

After a 5-year hiatus, let's revisit my surf data. 

As the fourth installment of the 'Surf Data' series, we will be reviewing a summary of all the data to date.

This data dates back to February 2017, and as of today (August 18th, 2025), there are over 1,700+ surf session entries in the dataset. 

I have recently formalized my code into a Python package (see the repo here)!

Surf Statistics by Year

In the figure below, I totaled the hours, session count, number of unique spots, and barrels made per year. 

Things to Note

• 2020 and 2021 were the biggest surf years (across all stats)

• I didn't start recording barrels made until 2021

• 2017 is a partial year (Feb-Dec)

• 2025 is a partial year (Jan-Aug)

This is the same information, this time grouped by month and season.

Legend

• Winter = Blue

• Spring = Green

• Summer = Yellow

• Fall = Orange
