BREAKING SOMETHING IS JUST THE UNSEEN COST OF LEARNING
- Marie Curie
I am currently a Lecturer in Computer Science at Emeris (formerly known as Varsity College), where I teach and mentor the next generation of technology professionals. My work blends technical expertise, strategic thinking, and industry experience, allowing me to approach computer science education with a uniquely holistic perspective.
As a lecturer, I focus on:
Teaching core programming and problem-solving skills, with a strong emphasis on Python, machine learning, and data science.
Guiding students through project-based learning, ensuring they gain practical, real-world experience alongside theoretical knowledge.
Bridging academic content with industry best practices, preparing students to thrive in technology-driven environments.
Mentoring students to develop both their technical abilities and their professional confidence, equipping them for diverse roles in the tech sector.
Before entering academia, I worked as a Senior Technician at O&O Analytics, where I operated across the marine, commercial, and industrial sectors. My key contributions included:
Leading the design and implementation of compressed gas supply and distribution systems in line with legislative requirements.
Conducting full site assessments for the design, maintenance, and installation of complex gas systems.
Building, maintaining, and training personnel on Continuous Emission Monitoring Systems (CEMS) for environmental compliance.
Installing and certifying oily water separators in the marine sector and training teams on their operation.
Developing practical innovations, such as a CV filtering system to streamline recruitment and 3D-printed product models to enhance client understanding.
Throughout this work, I prioritized collaborating with local suppliers, supporting community partnerships, and promoting sustainable practices.
What truly sets me apart is the combination of strategic business training and technical expertise.
My BCom in Strategic Management gave me a strong foundation in organizational thinking, leadership, and long-term planning.
My Postgraduate Diploma in Data Analytics deepened my ability to extract insights from data, apply analytical frameworks, and work with cutting-edge tools.
My industry experience adds a practical, solutions-oriented lens to everything I do.
This blend of business strategy, data analytics, and hands-on technical work positions me uniquely at the intersection of technology, education, and strategic innovation, allowing me to train students not just to code but to think critically, build intelligently, and innovate strategically.
I hold a BCom in Strategic Management, where I achieved an overall average of 82%. During my first year, I completed two short courses in coding, gaining experience in HTML and CSS for web development. As part of my research module, I explored the impact of AI on software development with my study titled:
"Boosting Programmer Productivity: Determining the Impact of AI Tools on the Productivity of Programmers in Small IT Businesses in Durban."
Building on this foundation, I pursued a Postgraduate Diploma in Data Analytics, where I graduated first in my class with an outstanding average of 92%. This experience solidified my passion for data analysis and machine learning algorithms, driving my interest in advanced analytics and AI-driven solutions.
I am also a qualified Instrument Mechanician, completing a trade test that equipped me with hands-on expertise in industrial instrumentation, automation, and process control systems. This background has given me valuable experience in calibrating, maintaining, and troubleshooting various control systems, further enhancing my problem-solving abilities in technical and analytical domains.
Beyond my formal education, I have a deep passion for mathematics and science, which I channel into tutoring high school students. With my practical work experience, I provide students with unique real-world examples, helping them understand complex concepts through relatable scenarios. This hands-on approach enhances their learning experience and fosters a deeper appreciation for problem-solving in STEM fields.
