eCADEMY has a zero tolerance AI/Plagiarism policy.
In my courses I do not allow AI or plagiarism. AI refers to generative technologies that include Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. The use of these technologies can mimic human writing styles. Submitting AI-generated work without proper attribution is considered plagiarism. Plagiarism is any section of an essay or project that has been copied from another source without proper citation and giving credit to the original author for their ideas. AI can generate false information, fabricate citations, and produce biased content and is not acceptable. The use of AI can also hinder one's development of critical thinking, argumentation, and a unique writing voice.
I do not give credit to any written assignment that is AI/plagiarized and will not allow students to re-do AI/plagiarized assignments.
To prevent AI/plagiarism be sure to use your own thoughts and writing. You may consult Purdue Owl by clicking the "Purdue Owl's MLA Style Guide" here. All essays and projects should adhere to MLA style formatting and citations with a Works Cited page and all sources used cited properly.

Remember there are 2 grades on the Edgenuity Progress Report:
1) Actual Grade: this is a paced grade so it takes into consideration all the work you SHOULD have completed up to the current date. Anything you haven't done is scored as a 0, which causes your Actual Grade to be lower than the Overall Grade. This is the grade we use throughout the semester to post grades in Synergy and progress reports.
2) Relative Grade: This is the 'walk away grade', meaning if your student does no more work in the class, this is the grade they will receive in the class. This grade should only be looked at when we get to the end of the term. If this grade is above a 60%, you are guaranteed to pass. However, if you do not finish the course or you do not take the final exam at the end of the semester, you will be given this grade on your report care/transcript.
Grades:
Grades will be entered into Synergy every FRIDAY. The grade you and your child need to pay attention to is the Actual Grade. The actual grade shows on the Edgenuity homepage and is the grade your child has in the course, which reflects their work and includes any zeroes if they are behind in the class and is the grade entered into Synergy each week.
Grading Reminders:
Students need to complete their own work. Any AI or plagiarism will result in a zero on the assignment/essay as well as any assignment that compliments the AI / plagiarized assignment and redos will not be allowed.
Due to the online nature of our course and the creation of AI, teachers reserve the right to question any work for authorship. If requested by the instructor, students bear the responsibility of proving that the work submitted in this course is, in fact, that of the student's own thinking and writing ability. For any credit to even be considered after an AI issue occurs, students may be asked to complete an alternate writing assignment in person at eCademy HS.
Any essay or project that a student chooses not to complete will result in a zero on the essay or project as well as any assignment that compliments the essay or project. Redos will be allowed for partial credit if needed. But no redos will be allowed the week of finals. The redo must be requested and completed within one week of the original assignment being graded and may be granted at the discretion of the instructor.
Essays and projects are the big-ticket items for English. Taking a zero or scoring poorly will make it difficult to earn credit.
Students may request a redo on essays and projects so long as it was not AI/plagiarized; full credit will not be given on redos. The redo must be requested and completed within one week of the original assignment being graded and may be granted at the discretion of the instructor.
Students automatically receive retakes on quizzes and tests. Students may request additional retakes and may be granted at the discretion of the instructor. Students should include unit notes with their retake request.
There are no redos on assignments.
NO redos are allowed the week of finals.
Attendance will be taken the last Monday of each month.
Students will be marked absent if they are behind. This is not indicative of the amount to which the student understands the content, nor their grade in the class, but instead, is a measure of a student’s engagement during one week of required work time.
Students have 24/7 access to their online course. Students will have required work for each school day. This can take a student 4 to 6 hours to complete weekly, for each course, for the five-day school week. The required work will determine the target completion goal and their actual grade. Both of these percentages will change daily as students complete the required work.
IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS:
Take notes! This is the easiest way to pass quizzes and tests on the first try. Don’t waste time having to redo quizzes and tests due to low grades.
DO NOT USE AI OR PLAGIARIZE! Your course, your work. Copied and pasted answers and projects are not acceptable and will earn zeros with no ability to re-do them. Continued attempts to turn in plagiarized material could result in disciplinary action.
Your ACTUAL GRADE will be posted on Friday. You can view it in StudentVUE.
Please message me through the Edgenuity program if you have questions or concerns or if you need help with anything. You can also text me at (505) 585-5469.
An average of 1 hour a day, 4-6 hours per week, is necessary for each Edgenuity course you take.
Final Exams are worth 15% of your grade and you will only have one attempt on it so take it seriously. It can make the difference of one or two letter grades for your course.
Check your StudentVue and Edgenuity email, message center, texts, and my site, at least once a week for important announcements and information. There are no excuses for "not knowing" about something.
EXPLORE the course. Edgenuity is loaded with many learning tools and features, including the assignment calendar, progress report, organizer, language selection, session logs, message system, note-taking guides, transcripts, and closed captioning, just to name a few.
Work towards earning a 70% or higher on everything.
You can access videos and instruction as many times as needed to understand the content, and you can pause the videos while taking notes.
Edgenuity presents everything to students in a sequential order; you cannot skip things until you have completed them. You can always go back, but you cannot skip.
All course work must be completed and submitted within Edgenuity, and everything must be completed in order to take the final exam.
Students can proceed through the course at their own pace; however, courses will close at the end of the quarter, no exceptions.
