For running, the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 in Asphalt is my top pick for gaming headphones budget because its sensory bass and active noise cancellation create an immersive escape. The Bone version of the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 takes the runner-up spot if you prefer a lighter build that sits comfortably on your head without slipping during high-intensity sprints.
• Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 (Asphalt) — best for deep immersion and blocking out city noise; pick this if you need long battery life and tactile bass feedback to stay motivated.
• Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 (Bone) — best for extended wear during long runs; pick this if you want a slightly more compact fit with the same powerful audio features.
• IMYB A36 (Red) — best for stationary gaming or quick post-run cooldowns; pick this if you prioritize multi-platform compatibility and a durable wired connection over wireless freedom.
• IMYB A36 (Blue) — best for clear voice communication in team games; pick this if you value a lightweight feel and a built-in volume knob for instant control.
The Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 represents a significant shift in how we experience audio while moving. This isn't just a pair of headphones designed for sitting in a chair; it is engineered to handle the dynamic environment of a run. The standout feature here is the patented Multi-Sensory Crusher Bass technology, which utilizes dual bass drivers alongside standard full-range drivers. What this means for a runner is that you aren't just hearing the beat; you are feeling it physically. That tactile feedback can be a genuine game-changer when you need that extra push to keep your pace up, turning a simple playlist into a physical rhythm that drives your stride.
Beyond the bass, the active noise cancellation system is robust enough to handle the chaos of outdoor environments. With four dedicated microphones, the headphones analyze ambient sound and emit signals to cancel it out. This allows you to hush the noise of traffic, wind, or other runners, letting you focus entirely on your music or game audio. For those who rely on transparency mode, the "Stay-Aware" setting offers a practical balance, allowing you to hear your surroundings when necessary without taking the headphones off. It is a versatile solution for anyone who wants to disconnect from the world but still needs to know what is happening around them.
The battery life is another critical factor for long-distance runners or gamers who don't want to charge their gear every few hours. You get up to 60 hours of listening time with the noise cancellation turned off, which is more than enough for weeks of use. If you do forget to charge overnight, the rapid charge feature is a lifesaver, providing four hours of listening from just ten minutes of charging. The ability to pair with two devices simultaneously via multipoint pairing also adds convenience, allowing you to seamlessly switch between your phone for calls and your console or PC for gaming without fumbling with settings.
However, there are trade-offs to consider. The design is an over-ear fit, which provides excellent isolation but might feel warm during very hot summer runs. The plastic enclosure is durable, yet the size makes these less pocket-friendly than earbuds. While the weight is manageable for most, the sensation of having substantial hardware on your ears is distinct compared to lighter alternatives. If you are looking for something invisible on your head, these are not it. But if you want a premium, immersive experience where the music feels like part of your workout, the Crusher ANC 2 delivers that depth better than almost anything else in this category.

While the specifications for the Bone colorway share the core DNA of the Asphalt model, there are subtle differences in the user experience that make it a compelling alternative for specific runners. The primary distinction lies in the packaging and potentially the internal tuning nuances that come with the different color variant, though the core functionality remains identical. Both versions offer the same impressive 60-hour battery life and the same aggressive noise cancellation capabilities. The choice between these two often comes down to personal aesthetic preference and how the specific unit feels on your head after a long session.
The bone-colored iteration maintains the same commitment to comfort with soft ear cushions that are designed to sit securely over the ears. For runners, the stability of the headband is crucial. The flexible design ensures that the headphones stay put even when you are sweating or hitting a fast jog. The inclusion of the Skull-iQ app allows for further customization, letting you create a personalized sound profile that adapts to your hearing. This level of control is rare in the budget segment and ensures that the audio signature can be tailored to your exact taste, whether you prefer punchy bass for hip-hop or balanced mids for podcasts.
One of the strongest arguments for this specific configuration is its versatility across activities. Whether you are running, working out at the gym, or studying, the adjustable EQ modes let you switch contexts instantly. You can dial in a "music" mode for your run, switch to "movie" for a movie night, or engage "podcast" mode for a commute. The physical controls on the ear cup allow for easy management of volume and track skipping without needing to reach for your phone, which is essential when your hands are busy holding water or adjusting your form.
The main trade-off remains the bulkiness inherent to over-ear designs with active components. If you have a smaller head or find heavy headphones uncomfortable after an hour, the weight distribution here might feel noticeable. Additionally, while the materials are high-quality plastic, they are not as breathable as open-back designs. This means that during intense cardio, you might experience some heat buildup. However, if you prioritize sound quality and battery longevity over breathability, the Bone version offers the same exceptional performance as its darker counterpart, making it a solid choice for anyone who wants a reliable, long-lasting audio companion for their daily routine.
The IMYB A36 takes a completely different approach by focusing on wired reliability and multi-platform versatility rather than wireless freedom. This headset is designed for gamers who want a direct, lag-free connection to their console or PC, and it doubles as a surprisingly capable option for stationary listening after a run. For a gamer, this translates to being able to hear footsteps and environmental cues that give a competitive edge. The sound stage is wide enough to provide a sense of direction, which is vital for immersive gameplay.
Comfort is a major selling point for the A36, especially given its lightweight construction. The headset weighs significantly less than many competing models, thanks to the flexible headband and thickened padding. The ear cushions are soft and skin-friendly, ensuring that you can wear them for extended gaming sessions without fatigue. For someone who finishes a run and immediately sits down to game, this transition is seamless. The braided cable is high-tensile strength and anti-tangle, meaning you won't spend your time wrestling with cords before you can start playing. This durability is a practical benefit for anyone who moves their setup around frequently or has pets and kids in the house.
The microphone on the IMYB A36 is integrated and omni-directional, featuring noise isolation to help filter out background chatter. This ensures that your teammates hear you clearly, even if you are typing loudly or if there is ambient noise in the room. The rotary volume control on the headset itself is a thoughtful addition, allowing you to adjust the mix instantly without digging through software menus. For a budget-conscious buyer, getting a 3-year limited hardware warranty is a significant plus, offering peace of mind that the product is built to last.
However, the lack of wireless connectivity is a clear limitation for a runner. While you could technically use these for gaming post-run, they are not suitable for wearing while jogging due to the cord. The wired nature also restricts your movement range; you are tethered to your device by a six-and-a-half-foot cable. If you plan to move around your room or use a laptop away from your desk, this becomes a constraint. Furthermore, the sound isolation is passive, meaning it blocks noise but does not actively cancel it out like the Skullcandy options. If you need to hear your surroundings while exercising, these simply cannot do that job. They are a dedicated gaming tool, not a hybrid fitness accessory.
The blue variant of the IMYB A36 shares the same core engineering as the red version, focusing on delivering a consistent, high-performance audio experience for a fraction of the cost of premium wireless brands. The key advantage here is the sheer breadth of compatibility. This universality makes it an ideal choice for households with multiple gaming consoles or for users who switch between platforms frequently. You do not need to buy different headsets for different systems; one cable handles them all.
The design philosophy behind this model prioritizes function and value. The oval earpiece shape is engineered to fit a wide range of head sizes comfortably. The faux leather material on the ear cups provides a good seal for sound isolation, enhancing the immersion in games. For runners who are done with their activity and want to unwind with a match, the lightweight build ensures that putting them on doesn't feel like a chore. The button microphone mute is easily accessible, allowing for quick comms management during intense lobby chats. The anti-tangle braided cable is a practical necessity that prevents the frustration of knotted wires, a common issue with cheaper headsets.
What sets this model apart in a crowded market is the balance of price and features. You get large drivers, a decent microphone, and a robust build without the premium price tag associated with big-name wireless brands. The 3-year warranty stands out as a testament to the manufacturer's confidence in the product's longevity. For a student or a casual gamer on a strict budget, this is a no-brainer. It covers all the bases: it sounds good, it looks cool with its RGB accents (depending on the specific lighting implementation), and it works everywhere.
The trade-off, again, is the wired connection. In a world where wireless is becoming the standard, the need to plug in can be seen as a step back. If you are running outdoors, the cable is a liability; it can snag, pull, or restrict your natural arm swing. Even indoors, if you want to move far from your desk, the cable length becomes a limiting factor. Additionally, the passive noise isolation, while effective, cannot compete with the active cancellation of higher-end models. If you live in a noisy apartment, you might find that outside noises still bleed in. But if your priority is pure, unadulterated gaming performance on a budget, the IMYB A36 delivers exactly what you need.
We compared published specs and features across multiple models to identify the best options for different needs. Generally, yes. Wireless models like the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 eliminate the risk of cables snagging or pulling, which is crucial for safety and comfort during a run. Wired options like the IMYB A36 are better suited for stationary gaming where movement is limited.
It depends on your environment. Active noise cancellation helps block traffic and wind noise, creating a private bubble, but you should always use transparency modes when running near roads to stay aware of your surroundings.
Yes, both the Skullcandy Crusher ANC 2 and the IMYB A36 connect to smartphones.
Both options excel in comfort, but for different reasons. The Skullcandy offers plush over-ear pads for long gaming marathons, while the IMYB is notably lighter, making it less fatiguing for extended wear if you prefer a minimal feel.
