BET TYPE 05
Exacta
How it works
An Exacta (also called a "Perfecta" on some platforms) requires you to correctly select the first and second finishers in exact order. Get the order wrong and your ticket is worthless, even if your two picks fill the first two positions.
An Exacta requires both selected horses to finish in the correct order, making it more difficult to complete than a Quinella using the same selections. Payouts vary according to the market and result, while covering additional combinations increases the total amount staked.
Punters often use combinations to cover multiple Exacta possibilities — for example, nominating three horses and covering every possible 1st/2nd pairing among them. Each combination is a separate unit, so costs multiply quickly.
EXAMPLE
You bet horse 5 to win and horse 2 to run second — a $1 unit Exacta. Horse 5 wins, horse 2 runs second. The Exacta dividend is $34.60. Return on your $1 unit: $34.60. A $5 bet returns $173.
Combining Exactas: watch your unit cost
Covering 5 horses in all combinations requires 20 separate Exacta bets (5 × 4). At $1 per unit, that's a $20 outlay. Always calculate your total investment before placing combination exotics.
