The Game of the Goose or Goose Game or Royal Game of the Goose is a board game where two or more players move pieces around a track by rolling a die or two dice. The aim of the game is to reach square number sixty-three before any of the other players, while avoiding obstacles such as the Inn, the Bridge, The Maze and Death. This particular mobile game has been modified with a points system where players contribute coins into the pot for landing of the hazards and the winner wins the pot when they land on place sixty-three.
It is probably one of the earliest commercially produced board game - recorded in Italy as early as the end of the 15th Century. Over hundreds of years, it has appeared in a myriad variations of rules and illustrative designs. Many of the boards reflect politics or social situations of the time and some are incredibly beautiful and creative. A version of the game was given as a gift by Francesco I de' Medici of Florence to King Philip II of Spain sometime between 1574 and 1587.
Please wiki the game if you do need more information.
The game is played on a spiral shaped board consisting of 63 spaces. There are four differently coloured pieces - often in the shape of a goose and two six-sided dice.
On the initial page each piece can be configured to be either off, player is active or automatically roll the dice.
Pieces are placed on the starting space at the outside of the spiral. Highest roll of the dice starts.
The Game of Goose is a simple race game - first person to reach space 63 wins the pot. Various harzard spots along the way force players to contribute coins into the pot.
Players take turns to roll the dice (by pressing the dice icons) and moved their piece forward by the sum of the two dice. Players turn is highlighted just below the dice.
Certain spaces have special moves associated with them.
Place 0 - If your first throw is six and three, move to space 26.
Place 0 - If your first throw is five and four, move to space 53.
Place 6 - The Bridge - Go to space 12
Place with picture of goose - If a player lands here he can move forward by the same amount again.
The other places with icons can hinder the players progress and will generally force the player to contribute some money into the pot.
Place 19 - The Hotel - Stay for (miss) one turn. The player contributes 10 coins to the pot for landing there and another 10 during the turn missed.
Place 31 - The Well - Stay for (miss) two turns. The player contributes 10 coins to the pot for landing there and another 10 for every turn missed.
Place 42 - The Maze - Go back to space 30 and contribute 10 coins to the pot.
Place 52 - The Prison - Either roll a total of 9 and move to position 53 or wait until someone comes to release you - they then take your place. As usual every turn missed contribute 10 coins to the pot.
Place 58 - Death - Return your piece to the beginning - start the game again
If a player lands on another player, the other player is returned to the space that the current player started from in that turn (i.e. the two pieces swap places). Both players contribute to the pot the dice rolled amount.
To win the pot, the player must land exactly on space 63. After winning the pot the player can start again from the beginning. There is no real game end. The game can end when a player exhausts all his coins.
If a player throws too many, the piece counts the extra points backwards from the winning space. If you then land on a goose space, you must continue moving backwards by the amount of your throw until you land on a space with no goose space. If you land on the Death space, you must start again. When moving back from space 63 the player contributes 10 to the pot and then the usual contributions.
Many German boards feature an additional Hazard space on space 61 - usually illustrated with a glass of drink. If a piece lands on this space, the player has to finish his drink! A drinking version will be soon introduced.
