Galo Castro is a 24-year-old multidisciplinary artist from Argentina currently at Shafranski Art Foundation Residency program in Los Angeles.
Through vibrant colors, scribbled pencil phrases and graffiti, Galo evokes feelings that seek to capture both the realities of the current crippling socio-economic state, and the everyday sweetness of life in his beloved home, Argentina.
For Galo, the historic inflation runaway has emphasized the importance of expressing oneself without creative limits and, more importantly, never taking oneself too seriously. In his work, he takes in the world with the eyes of a child who’s curious and playful rather than overwhelmed.
This is how MIERDA was born, which is more than a pseudonym, but a way of life and home for his multidisciplinary practice. Whether it’s tagging the streets, designing clothes or using the hood of a car as his canvas, Galo draws on his intuition to capture emotions that are simple, yet true. Through his playful and free strokes, Galo’s work has a way of celebrating the small mundane moments we all take for granted.
As Galo continues to progress in his career and life, he strives to always laugh a little at the world around him.
