Introduction

It is one of the key institutions of higher learning of Zhejiang Province with a wide range of disciplines: economics, law, education, liberal arts, history, science, engineering, agronomy, medicine and management. The University is located in the historical and cultural city of Ningbo of Zhejiang Province, bordering on the East China Sea. Ningbo has long been acclaimed as a thriving commercial port and a shining pearl near the East Sea, and it has gradually grown to be a major city in the Southern part of the Yangtze Delta and a key trading port in the East China.

The University has five campuses, covering an area of over 160 hectares, with a floor space totaling 560,000 square meters. The main campus, adjacent to Ningzhen Road in the north and Yongjiang River in the south, offers wide space for study and research with magnificent buildings and pleasant lawns and greenery.

Ningbo University ranks among the first group of universities of China to enroll students from China mainland and Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macao. It offers mainly undergraduate programs, and simultaneously it makes vigorous efforts to expand graduate programs, and also offers doctoral degrees in cooperation with other universities.

The university has also made great advancements in scientific studies and social services. It has 2 provincial key laboratories, 12 municipal key laboratories, and 77 institutes. It has jointly established, with the local enterprises, 3 provincial and municipal engineering and technology centers. Ningbo University maintains close links and intercollegiate cooperation with 47 well-known institutions of higher learning in Canada, Germany, France, Britain, USA, Sweden, Japan, South Korea and Australia.

A Brief Profile of Ningbo University School of Medicine

Ningbo University School of Medicine was founded in 1998 under the donation of Dr. Yuhan Tang from Hongkong,who is also Honorary Dean of the school. Professor Qijun,Shen, an expert in Epidemiology and Health Statistics, is the executive dean.

The school has 5 departments, 3 research centers. Its full-time undergraduate students have reached 1100, including 220 postgraduates. The school runs bachelor degree programs, diploma degree program, 3 master degree programs and 5 programs of adult education & distance learning for the national students, as well as 1 six-year bachelor degree on Clinical Medicine program (MBBS) for international students. In 2011, Ministry of Education permitted university to enroll international students to study MBBS program in English medium. Now there are international students from Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Pakistan and other countries.

The school has a total of 15,000 Sq. meters space devoted to research and education, holds plenty of advanced equipments in the laboratories, which are valued over 40 million RMB. Faculties come from diverse backgrounds with excellent academic portfolios. In the past three years, they have received more than 120 research grants of different level, which include over 40 grants of national level. Moreover, they published more than 60 SCI and EI papers, and won over 20 academic awards. The school has 8 affiliated hospitals, 8 teaching hospitals, 7 teaching & practice bases of GP and 3 teaching & practice of Preventive Medicine.
