Gallery West is a micro space that exists within the atrium commons at Normal West High School in Normal, Illinois. It is currently operated by the Normal West art department in hopes of bringing unconventional and non-traditional art experiences to the student body, staff, and surrounding community. Unlike other galleries, Gallery West has distinct space limitations that makes successfully exhibiting standard art shows very difficult. This limitation creates a forced intimacy between an individual viewer and the artwork, as only one viewer the time can really experience the art comfortably. By forcing curious onlookers to separate from the pack in order to investigate the space, viewers are able to create their own opinions and have a unique experience.
Dimensions:
The space is 48in W x 88inL x ~96inH. It has a removable monitor on the back wall that can be used to display a slide presentation or a multimedia piece(s). The framed ceiling is open and has a line of track lighting down the center.
