As of 2018, Galileo's football program leads all San Francisco city schools with 18 city championships. In 2017, the Lions became the first San Francisco high school team to win a California State football championship. Its first city title was the 1933 season followed by a repeat in 1934.
Hall of Fame coach, George White, for whom the football field is named after, was responsible for 9 of the 18 championships.
