Gematria

Years ago, in between taking customer service calls at work, I started messing with a calculator on the computer out of boredom. I eventually thought, “What if I attribute values to letters?” For me the most obvious values to resort to was:  A=1   B=2   C=3 and Z =26.

Within a short amount of time and a few random words, I said to myself “What greater word to calculate then the Word of God?” So I found that Jesus = 74. I thought “Ok that’s cool, what about other words of the same subject?”

When I got the same numeric values, I realized this was significant but I did not know what to make of it for some time. I searched online and came to understand this is called Gematria, which is commonly used in Hebrew. What I found to be very interesting was that the word Gematria = 74. In fact what I am using is called English Gematria. Even the word English = 74. 

When showing this to other people I often got responses like “What does 74 mean?” So when considering what the answer is for this question, I was looking at the equation. You could say Jesus = 74 and 74 = Cross. It appears to be a sort of signature of God’s providence to orchestrate this result. Various people from different times made these words but God is in control of the process. I feel that it is confirmation of God’s providence.

Tradition holds that the Tetragrammaton, which is the four letters YHWH representing the name of God, is holy and unpronounceable, not having vowels. This is why you often see G-d spelled without the o, which is a tribute to this the tradition of reverence for the name of G-d.  The commandment also states:  Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.” Understanding that Jesus = 74, it is note worthy that G=7 and D=4.

The resulting value of including the vowel o in G-d is 26. This is interesting because the respective Hebraic gematria numeric values for YHWH are 10, 5, 6 & 5 which equals 26. When you subtract 26 from 100 you have 74. Consider also that the word Hundred = 74.

When isolating the value results between consonants & vowels in Jesus’ name, there appears to be a meaningful significance. JSS = 48 and EU = 26. I’ve already explained that God = 26. As for the value 48, it is the same value for the words: Tree, Son and Blood. The cross is called a tree in the bible. Of course Jesus is the Son of God who hung on the cross and His blood is for the new covenant. So the values between the consonants and vowels in Jesus name meaningfully equate to, The Son of God who hung on the cross to cover our sins with his blood.

Another aspect I want to explain is that because Hebrew is read from right to left, I had reverse the number values of A=1 ... Z=26 to A=26 ... Z=1. Using these reversed values, the results I got are the following below:

Jesus = 61 Cross = 61 Jewish = 88 Messiah = 115 Preacher = 142 Gospel = 88 Forgave = 115

What is interesting here is that all the values have a digital root of 7. For instance, Jesus = 61, so 6+1 = 7. Again, Jewish = 88, so 8+8 = 16 and 1+6 = 7. Seven is a number that  God uses as a signature, often denoting perfection and completion. Again I find that this is confirmation of God’s providence regarding the values of words through out the ages. When I used this numeric system on the first verse of the bible, I got this result:
