Block Printing, or Woodblock Printing, is a technique for creating images, patterns, or text on paper, textiles, or other surfaces. Each image or page is carved onto a wooden block, which is then coated with paint or ink and stamped onto the surface being decorated. The technique may have originated in China about 2000 years ago. From China, it spread throughout Asia and into India and the rest of the world. The most common motifs used in block printing are trees, fruit, animals, and geometric patterns.
