Dr. Saro Lee
President
GeoAI Data Society
Distinguished guests, respected colleagues, and friends,
On behalf of the GeoAI Data Society and the GeoAI Data Society of Geology, it is my great honor to welcome you to the 3rd International Symposium on GeoAI Data, co-hosted with the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) and the Department of Mineral Resources (DMR), Thailand.
Thank you for joining us at ibis Styles Bangkok Ratchada, from March 23 to 25, 2026. Your participation demonstrates a shared commitment to strengthening geoscience through data, innovation, and regional cooperation. GeoAI is rapidly becoming essential infrastructure for how we observe and understand the Earth. It enables more efficient interpretation of remote sensing and field data, faster mapping of geological and environmental features, and improved monitoring of hazards. However, the impact of GeoAI depends not only on model accuracy, but also on the foundations beneath it: high-quality data, consistent metadata, interoperable standards, and transparent, reproducible workflows that earn trust across institutions and countries.
In East and Southeast Asia, the need for collaboration is particularly urgent. Our region faces diverse and interconnected challenges—earthquakes and volcanic activity, landslides and floods, coastal risks, and climate-driven extremes—alongside rapid urbanization and growing demand for critical resources. These challenges do not stop at national borders. That is why cross-border partnerships are vital: to share datasets, align technical practices, establish common benchmarks, and build capacity so that GeoAI solutions can be applied reliably where they are needed most.
This symposium is designed to be a practical platform for turning ideas into action. Over the next three days, I encourage you to engage actively in the technical sessions, panels, and discussions. Please share lessons learned—both successes and limitations—so we can accelerate progress together. I also invite you to use this opportunity to form new collaborations that move beyond research prototypes toward operational services, supporting decision-makers in hazard risk reduction, resource management, and sustainable development.
I extend my sincere appreciation to CCOP and DMR Thailand for their strong partnership and warm hospitality, and to all organizers, speakers, sponsors, and participants for making this symposium possible.
With that, I declare the 3rd International Symposium on GeoAI Data officially open. I wish you a productive and inspiring symposium.
Mr. Ma Yongzheng,
Director
CCOP Technical Secretariat
Distinguished guests, respected speakers, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,
On behalf of the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia, or CCOP, it is my great pleasure to warmly welcome you to the 3rd International Symposium on GeoAI Data, co-hosted with the GeoAI Data Society and the Department of Mineral Resources, Thailand.
We are delighted to gather here in Bangkok, at ibis Styles Bangkok Ratchada, from 23 to 25 March 2026, bringing together experts, researchers, and practitioners from across our region and beyond. Your presence here reflects a shared commitment to strengthening geoscience through data, innovation, and trusted regional collaboration.
As highlighted in the Opening Address, GeoAI is rapidly becoming an essential infrastructure for understanding the Earth—supporting hazard monitoring, environmental assessment, and sustainable resource management. From CCOP’s perspective, however, the effectiveness of GeoAI depends not only on advanced algorithms, but also on the quality, accessibility, and interoperability of the underlying data, as well as the capacity of institutions and people who use them.
East and Southeast Asia face diverse and interconnected challenges - earthquakes, volcanic activity, floods, landslides, coastal risks, and climate-driven extremes - challenges that do not recognize national boundaries. This reality makes regional cooperation and usage of new tools such as big data cloud computing and AI indispensable. Through shared harmonized datasets, common technical standards, and coordinated capacity building, GeoAI can move beyond research prototypes toward reliable operational tools that support decision-makers and communities.
This symposium provides an important platform to advance that goal. CCOP highly values its partnership with the GeoAI Data Society and the Department of Mineral Resources of Thailand in fostering dialogue that bridges science, technology, and application. We hope this meeting will not only showcase innovation, but also strengthen trust, exchange practical lessons, and spark new collaborations across our Member Countries.
I encourage all participants to engage actively in the sessions and discussions over the coming days, to share both successes and challenges, and to work together toward GeoAI solutions that are credible, inclusive, and impactful.
Once again, welcome to Bangkok. I wish you a productive, collaborative, and inspiring symposium. Thank you very much.
Mr. Suvapak Imsamut
Deputy Director-General
Department of Mineral Resources (DMR)
Distinguished guests, respected experts, colleagues, ladies and gentlemen,
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the Department of Mineral Resources, Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to the 3rd International Symposium on GeoAI Data, held from 23 to 25 March 2026 here in Bangkok, Thailand.
Thailand is pleased to co-host this symposium together with the GeoAI Data Society and the Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP). We welcome the participation of experts, researchers, and practitioners from across East and Southeast Asia and beyond, reflecting our shared commitment to advancing geoscience through data-driven innovation and regional cooperation.
Geospatial Artificial Intelligence, or GeoAI, is rapidly becoming a core component of modern geoscience practice. The integration of artificial intelligence with geospatial and Earth observation data enables more efficient interpretation of complex datasets, improved monitoring of natural hazards, and stronger support for evidence-based decision-making. However, the effectiveness of GeoAI depends not only on advanced analytical methods but also on the availability of high-quality data, consistent metadata, interoperable standards, and institutional capacity to apply these tools in an operational context.
East and Southeast Asia continue to face diverse and interconnected challenges, including earthquakes, volcanic activity, landslides, floods, coastal risks, and climate-driven extremes. These challenges are intensified by rapid urbanization and increasing demand for natural resources, and they do not respect national boundaries. Addressing them requires coordinated regional approaches, shared data infrastructure, and sustained technical collaboration.
In this context, this symposium provides an important platform to strengthen regional cooperation in GeoAI and data-driven geoscience. It supports the transition from research and pilot studies toward practical applications that can inform policy, enhance disaster risk reduction, and contribute to sustainable resource management.
Thailand remains committed to promoting the responsible use of artificial intelligence, Earth observation, and geoscience data in support of national and regional development priorities. We value our close collaboration with CCOP, the GeoAI Data Society, and partner institutions to build technical capacity, promote data interoperability, and strengthen trust in geoscience information across the region.
Over the next three days, I encourage all participants to actively engage in the technical sessions and discussions, share practical experiences, and explore opportunities for sustained collaboration. The outcomes of this symposium will help shape more effective GeoAI applications and a stronger geoscience community in our region.
Finally, I would like to express my sincere appreciation to the organizers, speakers, sponsors, and participants for your dedication and contributions to this event.
I wish you a productive and successful symposium.
Thank you.
