Privacy Policy — GAI Assistant

The short version: We collect nothing. Your API key stays in your browser. Page content goes directly from your browser to Groq — never through us. We have zero access to your data.

1. Who We Are

GAI Assistant is an independently developed Chrome browser extension that provides AI-powered tools for browsing, writing, summarization, translation, and image generation.

2. Data We Collect

GAI Assistant does NOT collect, transmit, or store any personal data on our servers.

The only data stored by the Extension is kept locally inside your own browser using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API:

- Your Groq API key — stored locally so you don't re-enter it each session

- Your Prompt Library — saved prompts you create, stored locally for personal reuse

- Your Chat History — past conversations, stored locally in your browser only

This data never leaves your device and is never sent to the Extension developer or any third party we control.

3. Third-Party Services

When you actively use features in GAI Assistant, your browser communicates directly with third-party services. This communication goes from YOUR browser directly to THEIR servers — it does not pass through any server we control.

Groq API (groq.com)

When used: Chat, Summarize, Write, Translate, Grammar, Screenshot Analysis

What is sent: Your text prompt, page content you choose to analyze, your Groq API key as an authorization header

Pollinations AI (pollinations.ai)

When used: Image Generator feature

What is sent: Your image description prompt only

4. Page Content & Browsing Data

GAI Assistant can read the text content of the webpage you are currently viewing — but ONLY when you explicitly request it by clicking "Load page" in the sidebar.

- We do not automatically read or record your browsing history

- We do not track which websites you visit

- We do not read page content in the background

- Page content you choose to analyze is sent directly to Groq's API and is not stored by us

The Extension's content script runs on all web pages solely to enable the optional "Load page" feature. It does not transmit any data unless you actively trigger it.

5. Permissions Explained

GAI Assistant requests the following Chrome permissions, each with a specific purpose:

- sidePanel — To display the GAI Assistant sidebar alongside web pages

- contextMenus — To show the right-click "GAI Assistant" menu when you select text

- storage — To save your API key, prompt library, and chat history locally in your browser

- tabs — To detect which page you are on for context-aware features

- scripting — To inject the page-reading script when needed for the summarizer

- host permission (all URLs) — To read page content on any website when you explicitly request it via the "Load page" button

6. Data Sharing & Selling

We do not:

- Sell your data to any third party

- Share your data with advertisers

- Use your data for targeted advertising

- Transfer your data to any party other than those listed in Section 3

The Extension is free because users bring their own Groq API key — not because of data collection or advertising. We have no business model that involves your data.

7. Data Retention

All data stored by the Extension (API key, prompt library, chat history) is stored in your browser's local storage. It persists until you:

- Uninstall the Extension

- Clear the Extension's storage via Chrome settings

- Manually delete it through the Extension's interface

We have no ability to delete your data remotely because we never receive it.

8. Children's Privacy

GAI Assistant is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided personal information through the Extension, please contact us so we can address it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
