Coach Matt Bailey has been Coach of the Year the past 4 seasons in the Ohio Capital Conference and Coach of the Year for All-Metro in 2022. He also currently coaches in the nationally known Beverly Bandit organization for the past 10 years and previously before that, 2 years in the Ohio Stingray Organization. He has been the athletic director and physical education teacher at Columbus Torah Academy since 2003 after graduating from Capital University. Competed collegiately in Football & Baseball and all-conference performer in both. Twice finishing in Top 5 in the OAC in Interceptions as a Safety in Football, and finished twice in the Top 3 in Stolen Bases & Triples in the OAC as a Centerfielder. Inducted into the GLHS Athletic Hall of Fame as a player in Fall 2023, captain of both GLHS Baseball & Football his Senior year, Hall of Fame Scholarship Recipient & Special Mention All-District and 1st team All-Conference performer in both sports.
Coach Hannah Smith was a standout pitcher for the Lions during her high school years 2011-2014 and went on to pitch in college for the Otterbein Cardinals! Coach Hannah teaches at Chapelfield Elementary as an educational aide! She brings a range of knowledge and experience to the table coaching! Also coaches volleyball at Middle School West. She has coach multiple levels in this GLHS softball program from a Freshman team, to JVB, to JV Gold and a few years on the Varsity Squad! She will be handling the pitchers and catchers within our program!
The Lions welcome back Coach Fred to the Varsity Coaching Staff. He coached the Lions for 11 seasons garnering over 200 wins under Hall of Fame coach Jim Campolo. In his previous time, he worked with the outfielders and will be looked upon again establishing the "no fly zone" in the Lions outfield! Coach Fred also coached a season at Westerville North and also helped coach club ball with his daughter.
Coach Chelsea Bennett has over 5+ Years of Private Instruction. She was a two year varsity assistant at Ursuline Academy. She played collegiately at Bowling Green State University as an infielder where she received numerous awards which include All-MAC 2nd Team, All-MAC Freshman Team, and was Academic All-MAC. Some of her numbers still rank in the Top 10 Statistical Career Rankings at BGSU. They include Homers, RBI's, Slugging Percentage & Sacrifice Flies. Originally from Central Ohio, where she graduated from Westerville South High School where she was an Infielder & Pitcher. Coach Bennett is also GLHS's NEW HEALTH teacher also!!
Coach Jacob Bennett joins the GLHS coaching staff as the new JV assistant softball coach, bringing extensive experience from his athletic career. A standout multi-sport athlete, he played football at Bowling Green State University, earning All-Conference honors and contributing to multiple MAC championships. With years of experience in player development for both football and softball, Jacob is committed to guiding athletes and fostering a competitive spirit. He looks forward to inspiring the next generation of softball players at GLHS, emphasizing teamwork and excellence.
Coach Jason Waid comes to the GLHS staff after getting his start in 2018 in GJLS rec league with the Mystics and Outlaws. Coach Waid moved onto travel ball in 2020 and has assisted many coaches over the years with the Lions, Anthem, and Zephyr travel programs. Coach Waid will be assisting the entire program from Varsity to JVB.
Coach Roy Seltzer has been coaching softball locally for the past 5 years. As well as assisting our Gahanna fast pitch 10u travel softball team. Roy has a Master’s Degree in Education and is an Instructor in the Gahanna Jefferson Public School district at Goshen Lane Elementary. Coach Roy will be assisting the entire program from Varsity to our JV Blue team. On JV Blue game days he will be head coach with Coach Waid and Coach Bailey as assistants.
Coach Pops has been assisting the GLHS Softball program for the past 4 years. Coach Pops assists in gameday preparations, game management and field cleanup and prep. Coach Pops is a retired law enforcement officer of over 30 years of service and also a veteran of the US Army!
Bill Withrow is a Gahanna icon known as "Gahanna Bill." The Bill Withrow Blue & Gold Award was established in 2001 to honor Bill's devotion to Gahanna Lincoln High School. You will see Bill in the dugout and around the diamond frequently during the Spring Season! We all LOVE BILL!!
