Greetings Fellow Colleagues!
I am honored to serve as president of the Georgia Association of Elementary School Principals (GAESP) for the 2022-2023 school year. I must acknowledge the extraordinary leadership of those who have served in this position before me. Each has solidified a layer of foundational success that has augmented the continued progress of this organization. These leaders have created a clear pathway for succeeding presidents to continue the spiraling movement of GAESP toward a higher level of excellence.
I will be entering my 28th year as an educator, and 20 of those years have been in the area of leadership. Being a member of GAESP has allowed me to experience superior professional learning that has been valuable to me and the staff at the school where I serve as principal. Most importantly, my ability to network and learn from others has been exceptional. It is my prayer that I will be able to lead our organization to higher heights, sustaining the rich traditions of professional learning and building our network of leaders.
GAESP is one of the affiliates under the Georgia Association of Educational Leaders umbrella. GAESP reached its highest membership with over 700 members this year. This increase validates the hunger that Georgia leaders have to be a part of our strong and vital organization. GAESP’s mission is to equip leaders with research-based practices that advance student learning. As previously mentioned, our organization supports professional learning and networking; however, legislative advocacy is also an integral part of our mission. With our strong board and team of leaders, we hope that we will fulfill our mission this coming year.
Maya Angelou shared that, “the best part of life is not just surviving, but thriving with passion and compassion and humor and style and generosity and kindness.” This quote energizes and clarifies our theme for our Fall 2022 conference, “From Surviving to Thriving”. As Georgia leaders, we have had to put on our blinders and move forward! We must only think of past experiences as lessons to be learned. We must move forward as we support our staff in shaping the hearts and minds of the children that we touch each day through our efforts to help them to become positive, contributing citizens in the communities where they live and the global society as well.
I’m looking forward to a fantastic 2022-2023 year, and I am grateful for your support and dedication to our association and to the amazing students of our great state!!
