Statistics on Gaelic Games matches both club and county are provided on this website. Matthew Hurley came up with the idea of GAA Statsman (later rebranded Gaelic Statsman due to naming rights) in the summer of 2019. He originally did this as a hobby at Gaelic Games matches, before posting his statistic records on his personal Twitter account (@matt_hurley01).
After a while, he gained confidence when completing these statistics and started an Instagram account in June 2019. Since then, Matthew has completed statistics in the main matches, including All-Ireland Finals and County Championship Finals among others. He has also done some stats on a local level of the game, such as Junior Football.
The Stats give a greater insight into what happened in a match, where it was won or lost and how teams could improve for the next game they play. It gives TV analysts something to talk about when the match ends. Analysts/Presenters such as Will O'Callaghan, Joanne Cantwell, Valerie Wheeler, Colm Boyle, Darran O'Sullivan, TJ Ryan, Liam Sheedy and Eamon Fitzmaurice follow the account on Instagram/Twitter.
GAA fans use statistics a lot after games too, mainly to find out who scored for their team, how accurate their team were with shooting, and how often they turned the ball over in a match. Statistics are a vital part of both Gaelic Football and Hurling.
Outlets such as SportsJoe.ie, Off the Ball, RTE and Radio Kerry have refenced the stats to analyze games.
