My name is Gabe Cronnelly and I am an Independent Galway Councillor for the Athenry-Oranmore area. I am also currently serving as Cathaoirleach of the Athenry-Oranmore municipal district. Additionally, I was also Deputy Mayor of County Galway from 2019-2020.
Married with three teenage boys, I understand the daily challenges facing working families each and every day. Since joining Galway County Council in 2014, my mission has been to work hard locally, regionally, and nationally for my community and county.
Specifically, I have been a strong advocate for disability access and inclusion in my community. My interest in this area is due to a personal tragedy I suffered 10 years ago which resulted in having my right leg amputated after an accidental gun discharge. Some examples of this include my support for a wheelchair accessible entrance to Athenry Heritage Centre, allocating funding to our public footpaths to improve local accessibility, engaging with sports and clubs to be increasingly more all-inclusive, and helping bring forward a local authority motion on disability rights in Galway County Council.
