OIK History

Active mainly in the early days from a tractor through the GB3VA repeater, but also running CW skeds to Peter in Sweden SM6KFY and AM top band with G2DPQ using a DX100U and an HRO for Rx. One time committee member of DDRC (Dunstable Downs Radio Club). During the early 2000s my interest waned with family life and was not very active at all - just skeds with Peter SM6KFY. In the latter part of 2014 my passion for the hobby was re-ignited. Thanks to Steve now 2E0MMY for that. Maybe XYL isn't so impressed!!

Now an active member of the Verulam Amateur Radio Club in the role of contest manager for the club. Regular skeds these days playing Thor (digital mode) with Peter (SM6KFY) and Poul (SA7CND) in Sweden, Hanspeter (HB9BFM) in Switzland and Steve (2E0MMY) on his canal boat in the UK. Also to be found on the VARC club CW net on Sunday evening on 50.040 from 20.30 local time. Contest activity mainly in the 80m club championship and Autumn Series, and the CQ WW SSB and CW contests. Also occasionally in the RSGB V/UHF contests

The QTH

At the end of January 2021 we moved to our present home in Caddington near Luton in the UK. The property is kind of triangular shaped and I have managed to fit in a 160m dipole in a C shape around the parameter. It is part of a fan dipole system the also runs 60m on another other leg and 30m through a tuner. 80, 40 and 20m are covered by a second fan dipole which also will tune all the other higher HF bands with the ATU in the FTdx101MP.

I have also erected a small tower for the V/UHF work. This gives a height of about 12m and can be easily lowered to change antennas.
