Monarch Butterflies are ectotherms and in the Oyamel forests temperatures range from 0 to 15 degrees Celsius. If the temperature is lower, the monarchs will be forced to use their fat reserves. The humidity in these forests assure the monarchs won’t dry out allowing them to conserve their energy.
The Monarch Butterfly has very different anatomy, physiology and reproduction systems as humans, insects and mammals. Their specific family ( Nymphalidae ) and order ( Lepidoptera ) are where their systems differ from other insects. Down below there is information on the Monarch Butterfly's anatomy, physiology and reproduction systems.
