Scorpions and snakes are present, but they are not dangerous. However, a scorpion sting can be painful, so check your shoes if you leave them outside. If you walk through tall grass, than trample a bit to scare away any snakes.
Mosquitos can be annoying in the evening, but every room has a mosquito repellant plug should you need it, and there is a spray near the kiosk. There is also an information folder in every room.

The Metochi Study center has been rented by the University of Agder from Monastery of Limonos. You can tak a trail behind the study center and after a 30 minutes hike with a nice view, you will find the Monastary itself. It is now only operated by the Abbed, and it a turistic site. There is also a café there and a museum that take 2 euros for entry. You again need cash to pay.
The study center sometimes gets visitors by locals or pilgrims, visiting the church in the courtyard.
For dinner, please return your cutlery and plates quickly after you are done, so that the dishes can be done sooner. You can hang on to your wine glass.
The study center is a former monastery. It is currently owned and operated by the University of Agder in Sothern Norway, and is rented out for groups for writing retreats, meetings and workshops.
The Metochi Study Centre is located in a monastery annex dedicated to two Greek Orthodox saints of mercy: Saints Anárgyri (Kosmás and Damianós). Metochi was founded in the 16th century as one of several annexes to the well-known Limónos Monastery. The monasteries are connected by a two-kilometer stone path from the same period. The Metochi monastery annex has been restored in modern times but still retains its original simplicity.
he monastery annex is located in a rural setting by the Gulf of Kalloni, about a 1-hour drive from the island’s airport (Mytilene – MJT). The nearest village is Kalloni, about 2.5 km from Metochi. Kalloni serves as a local commercial center with a bank, post office, health center, pharmacy, and various shops. The sandy beach at the Gulf of Kalloni is about 3.5 km from Metochi, near the small fishing village of Skala Kalloni. Here, there is a cozy square, tavernas, and a few hotels. The terrain between the monastery and the villages is flat and well-suited for cycling trips.
Metochi is not in daily use by the church, but there are still some restrictions regarding activities and clothing. Swimwear or similar attire is not advisable within the monastery walls. When visiting the main Limónos Monastery, clothing should cover the shoulders and knees.
Upon arrival at the monastery, the largest buses will not be able to drive all the way to the monastery gate due to narrow roads. Course participants must therefore be prepared for about a 5-minute walk with luggage.

Rooms
The rooms are mostly simple dormitory room style. Some rooms are single bed-, double or triple. Only some of the rooms have their own separate bathrooms. There are 25 rooms, and since we expect to me a little bit more than 25, some participants will have to share rooms.
The Metochi Study Centre includes 25 bedrooms (6 of which have private bathrooms; otherwise, there are 5 outdoor showers, 8 indoor showers, and 9 toilets), lecture halls, a library, group rooms, a dining hall, a monastery courtyard with several long tables, an atrium, terraces, churches, and chapels. There is also an amphitheater behind the monastery buildings with a view over the Gulf of Kalloni. The accommodations are simple, with rooms for 1–3 people in renovated monastic cells, providing a total of 50 beds.
