Getting to know Dr. Bowers

• I really like sports. Favorite teams: Washington Capitals, Colorado Avalanche, Minnesota Vikings, Purdue Boilermakers, Penn State Nittany Lions, Andretti Autosport, Corvette Racing

• I really like music, especially progressive metal and grunge music. Favorite bands: Metallica, Tool, Protest the Hero, Audioslave, Disturbed, System of a Down, Dave Mathews Band, Green Day, Blink 182, Queen, Billy Joel, Neil Diamond. Besides liking other people's music, I am a saxophone player. I've also got some experience installing and upgrading car stereos.

• My favorite things to do for fun at home are running, fossil hunting on our MD beaches, curating or expanding our mineral/fossil collection, watching sports, working on my cars, home improvement projects, light hiking with my family, and playing video games.

• US history, especially revolutionary war, the Manhattan project, and pirate history, are things I like to learn about.

• Many of my favorite stories come from Greek and Norse mythology, and I am also a fan of viking history.

• I like reading sci-fi and fantasy novels; my favorite authors are David Eddings, Naomi Novik, and Michael Crichton.

• I really enjoy making scientific graphics.

• My favorite vacations involve lots of driving, being with my family, and being outdoors at the beach or in the mountains.

• I like pipes and cigars as an occasional treat.

• I enjoy photographing natural landscapes and waterfalls.

• Favorite Movies: Star Wars (IV-IX), Alien series , Miracle, The Hobbit Trilogy, Blues Brothers, Pirates of the Caribbean, The Expendables series, Jaws, Joe vs. the Volcano, John Wick, Talladega Nights
