Biography
Ken is a graduate of Dennis Fulton Douglass High School in Montezuma, GA. He attended Fort Valley State University (FVSU) in 1977 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 1981. While attending FVSU, Ken served as the Cadet Battalion Commander, Army ROTC; he participated as a member of the Debate Team that went to Nationals in Milwaukee Wisconsin; he was a member of the Players Guild, winning the Best Actor award his first year on the team; and Vice President of the Criminal Justice Club. In 1981, he was chosen by the FVSU Faculty and Staff as the Man of the Year. The first to ever win the award without ever having served as the SGA President.
Ken Ward retired from the military in 2008 at the rank of Colonel after serving 26 years as a Military Police Officer in the U.S. Army. Following his Military career, he spent six years serving in various senior-level civilian contractor positions in Iraq, Qatar, and Kuwait. In addition to his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Fort Valley State University, Ken also has a Master of Science in Public Administration from the University of Missouri at Kansas City and a Master of Arts in Strategic Studies from Air University. His military education includes the Air War College, which is the highest formal education offered by the military, and Command and General Staff College.
Awards and decorations include: The Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal (7th Award), Army Commendation Medal (1st OLC), Army Achievement Medal (1st OLC), the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal, Southwest Asia Medal, the Kosovo Campaign Medal, Jumpmaster, Airborne and Air Assault badges, and the Ranger Tab. Ken currently serves as a Rating Veteran Service Representative in the Veterans Administration in Atlanta.
He has two children, Marcus and Ashley Ward
