The summary of the project

Project “Let’s create the future together” will help to implement positive changes in three Baltic countries (Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania) by introducing pupils to the principles of social sustainability, Nordic values; and by creating circumstances for pupils to develop innate need for activity and for the need to analise cultural, ethnic, and social diversity. One of the most essential priorities of a modern school is the education of a personality who is mindful, aware of his/her responsibility for the future, and able to participate in constantly changing society. We have to promote reflective thinking, to teach how to critically appreciate the meanings of identity, diversity, democracy, solidarity and responsibility. We also have to disclose the diversity of the world, emphasizing it as the never-ending source of wellbeing and inspiration to work together in order to ensure social sustainability. It is essential, that after having been introduced to the activities of sustainable companies, students will get active in creating future. Taking part in the project will enable pupils to learn about the principles of social sustainability, they will visit local companies and will be introduced to their sustainability policies. Innovative formal and informal teaching methods will be applied, so pupils will implement researches, surveys; they will find out how their peers understand social sustainability; they will present their findings and will create scenarios of sustainable business in creative workshops. 

The aim of the project

The aim of the project corresponds with the overall objectives of Nordplus and Nordplus Junior target group, because pupils will learn about social sustainability issues (development of cultural competency, learning about volunteering, issues of human rights, social equality, inclusion, environmental protection, ethical behaviour) through the activities of formal and informal education. 

Results

With the help of the teachers, pupils will implement surveys, presentations, scenarios for socially sustainable business, will create a future vision for their hometown; will prepare lesson plans for the pupils of other grades, interactive tasks about social sustainability, project vocabulary. An exhibition of pupils’ works will be organised (at schools and online). Teachers will gain important experience in international cooperation, will learn from each other, will include all the experience gained, means and methods for competence education in an online publication. Closer relationship with local business institutions will be gained, so that the pupils will have the opportunity to learn in a variety of environments, will learn about career possibilities through their own experience. Parents will also be included in the activities. The management of the schools will also contribute to the project activities, will aim to achieve the principles of social sustainability, in this way the whole school community will be educated. The managers will develop their skills in strategic management of changes, will broaden internationality at their schools. In the long-term perspective will plan to follow the principles of social sustainability implemented during the project and to develop their implementation. All the methodological materials will be available to any interested person; teacher will be able to use it during their lessons or informal education. Teachers and pupils from partner schools will continue to cooperate with regard to relevant topics.
