Eliot Waxman is a highly accomplished and award-winning educator with over two decades of experience teaching social studies at the high school level, including extensive work with Advanced Placement programs in U.S. Government and Politics, Comparative Government, Seminar, and Research. Eliot possesses a proven track record in fostering critical thinking, civic engagement, and the integration of 21st-century skills and technology in the classroom. His expertise extends beyond the classroom, encompassing experience as a public opinion pollster for political campaigns and issue advocacy groups and service as a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Corporation for National Service and Community Service. A recognized leader in the field, Eliot has presented at numerous professional conferences, served on advisory councils, and received multiple teaching awards at the school, county and state levels. He is adept at developing innovative interdisciplinary assessments and engaging students in understanding complex current events, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Mr. Waxman is committed to inspiring students to become active and informed citizens. Eliot and Beth have also worked closely with students and colleagues on highlighting Learning that Matters, a collection of student-centered learning experiences and vlogs with students that focuses on learning that matters to students and for student success outside of school.
Beth Blankenship is a creative and dynamic educator with two decades of experience teaching all levels of high school English and has extensive experience teaching interdisciplinary courses, as well as Advanced Placement Seminar and AP Language & Composition. Beth is recognized as a leader in assessment and curriculum design at the school, district, state, and national levels. Beth has presented at more than 20 national educational conferences, participated in education think tank panel discussions, been a guest speaker for graduate-level teacher education courses and the What School Could Be Impact Series, and featured on multiple podcasts, most recently on the Cult of Pedagogy Podcast. Beth has been recognized as a teacher leader at the school and county levels. As a curriculum designer, Beth created English and writing courses for Fairfax County, taught Academy training courses for FCPS teachers, started a Student-led Writing Center, and served on multiple county advisory councils. Beth is tirelessly dedicated to supporting her students, both in the classroom and as a Speech and Student Congress coach. Beth believes that every student has a powerful voice, that students learn best when exploring their personal interests and passions, and that students should be empowered to share their ideas with the world while being critically engaged in exploring and serving their community. Beth and Eliot have also worked closely with students and colleagues on highlighting Learning that Matters, a collection of student-centered learning experiences and vlogs with students that focuses on learning that matters to students and for student success outside of school.
