The History Curriculum of South Africa as a whole displays a lot of unfair biasness, it is Euro-centric, and we, the Grade 9 class of Future Nation Schools of 2024 are willing to embark on a journey of decolonising the History Curriculum.
We acknowledge that such a challenge will not be an easy journey, and as such, we have agreed that we will start tackling the Grade 9 History Curriculum, and as we succeed, more grades will be decolinised, until Africans learn more about Africa than foreign nations.
Research - A thorough research has been conducted on the current curriculum and the repercussins it has on an African child. Furthermore, the research went to measures of unveiling imperative historical knowledge that all Africans ought to know, that will ensure the promotion of African values such as Ubuntu and togetherness.
Letter to the Minister of Education - When the research was conducted, a letter was written to the Minister of Education requesting that the findings be accomodated to the Grade 9 Curriculum. We designed a Curriculum for the whole year in Grade 9 to illustrate the topics to be learned and the time of the year in which it should be learned.
Essay Writing - An essay was also written outlining how the current curriculum in Grade 9 does not reflect any African values such as African Identity, Economic Prosperity, Values and Perspectives of African cultures and traditions.
Script Writing - A play was designed to illustrate how the African Curriculum will look like when enacted within classrooms. And in the play, it is worth noting that not only will this change the course of HISTORY as a subject, but the play further displays how subjects like Mathematics will be taught, and the inclusion of medicine and so forth.
Adult Connection - Mrs Jacobsen was invited to teach the Grade 9s about writing an article and the required criteria of a good article. Based on her lesson, an article was written elaborating on the importance of decolonising the Curriculum.
