Participants will leave with a plan to evaluate or design an innovation space, identify at least one pilot model to implement, and explain why it fits their students, classroom, or school.

The following are the student standards addressed by the ETP.

6G–2: Actively pursue professional learning and growth opportunities to improve their quality of practice or to build expertise and experiences to take on leadership roles.

Identify at least one pilot model they might implement and explain why

Teacher Formative Assessments

The following formative assessments measure the PD participants' understanding and readiness to implement the model.

During a Think-Pair-Share, participants will:

Identify a space at their school that could be used for an Art-Based Innovation Lab.
Evaluate their current space layout and discuss what resources or changes they would need to get started.
Identify which implementation model would work best for their classroom or school and explain why.
Suggest additional implementation models that were not presented and discuss how they might work in their setting.

The following summative assessments demonstrate the PD participants' understanding and readiness to implement the model.

Innovation Lab PD: Summative Assessment (2 Questions)

1. Design Challenge: Innovation Lab Layout Plan

Design a new or evaluate an existing Innovation Lab space that supports creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning.

If your school already has a designated space, evaluate the layout and suggest improvements.
If your school does not have a designated space, design the layout you plan to use.

Create a labeled floor plan, diagram, or sketch that includes:

Tool locations
Supply storage
Scrap bin location(s)
Student work areas
Desk and table arrangement
Optional furniture or room design features

2. Pilot Implementation Plan

Select at least one Innovation Lab pilot model you would like to implement. Briefly describe how it would work and explain why it is a good fit for your students, classroom, or school.

Examples:

Fun Friday grade-level rotation
Single-classroom Innovation Lab session
After-school Innovation Club
Monthly Innovation Day

Rubric:

Teachers will:

Designate one centralized area of the room for all ChompSaws.
Include at least one scrap bin for reusable cardboard.
Arrange student desks or tables into collaborative groups.
Place shared art supplies at the center of each table group.
Identify at least one Innovation Lab pilot model they can implement.

Leading a Professional Development

For teachers leading a professional development session, they may present the PD slides and the Innovation Lab Guide to introduce the content, followed by the summative assessment for their participants. For their convenience, a QR code in the Lab Guide links directly to the Preferred Supply List.
