Air Filters

If there is a blockage you either run the risk of not distributing heat appropriately or possibly igniting a fire|When the filter gets dirty air will not flow through as well which suggests the furnace must work harder and will also mean a risk of fire. When the system works harder it costs more to operate. You want to obviously remove any chance of fire. Neither scenario is good for your bank account or your well-being..
The Blower
Check the blower blades and clean them up. A grimy fan will work harder to blow air around and naturally use more energy to maintain the thermostat level you set it at. Therefore strain on your HVAC system and your budget since more fuel is required to constantly run the blower.
Fire Damper
Be certain to check your fire damper for proper operation. This will ensure that the risk of fire is reduced and the system works more efficiently.
Flex Duct
It is possible that your ducts became damaged over the years for different reasons. If a duct has flattened or become stopped up your system will believe that the right temperature has been achieved which will not be true. Finally your equipment will be working harder to maintain your house cool while you keep on lowering the thermostat to get to comfortable settings.
Band Insulation
Insulation is usually forgotten but is one of the most common reasons why an HVAC system malfunctions. Take take time to look at the insulation in between the duct work and the exterior to ensure it has not come loose. When this has happened furnace will work more than needed while attempting to reach the best temperature.
Air Ducts
See that the ductwork has not become detached from the next section. These detachments can cause spaces in the ventilation and result in a loss of heated air in your home since it is going to be leaking out through the spaces.
The Return Air Inlets
Ensure that that return air intakes are free of the dust and dirt so air can flow easliy.
The Zone Dampers
Examine the zone dampers to see if they are in the correct position. Sometimes a damper will get moved by mistake like when you need to squeeze by it or create space for storage. For a properly functioning system check to see that your dampers are actually in the best spot.
