According to Fortune Business Insights, the global Digital Asset Custody Market was valued at USD 675.0 billion in 2025 and is projected to grow from USD 766.4 billion in 2026 to USD 2,879.3 billion by 2034, registering a CAGR of 18.0% during the forecast period. The market is expanding as institutional investors, banks, asset managers, corporations, and digital asset service providers increasingly adopt secure solutions for storing and managing cryptocurrencies, stablecoins, tokenized securities, and other blockchain-based financial assets.
Expansion of Regulated Digital Asset Investment Products
The growing adoption of regulated cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs), exchange-traded products, institutional investment funds, and digital asset portfolios is driving demand for professional custody services. These investment products require secure private-key management, asset segregation, transaction authorization, and reliable reporting to protect investors and meet regulatory obligations.
Banks, hedge funds, asset managers, and corporate treasuries are increasingly exploring digital assets as part of their investment strategies. As institutional participation increases, demand is rising for custody providers capable of managing substantial asset portfolios while maintaining strong security controls and operational transparency.
Increasing Institutional Participation in Digital Assets
Traditional financial institutions are expanding their involvement in cryptocurrencies and blockchain-based financial instruments. Professional custodians help these organizations manage cybersecurity risks, establish governance procedures, and maintain operational controls. Greater institutional adoption is therefore supporting the development of regulated custody infrastructure across major financial markets.
Integration of Custody with Tokenized Asset Services
A major market trend is the integration of custody services with tokenization, transaction settlement, asset administration, and other blockchain-based financial activities. Financial institutions are increasingly exploring tokenized bonds, investment funds, securities, and real-world assets. These developments create demand for custodians that can support secure ownership records, transaction processing, compliance, and reporting.
Growing Adoption of Advanced Security Technologies
Custody providers are investing in cold storage, multi-party computation (MPC), hardware security modules, multi-signature authentication, and policy-based transaction authorization. These technologies help protect private keys and reduce exposure to unauthorized access. Providers are also improving asset recovery procedures, access management, and transaction monitoring to meet institutional security requirements.

Growing Adoption of Tokenized Real-World Assets
The tokenization of government securities, real estate, investment funds, private credit, and other traditional financial assets is creating new opportunities for custody providers. As financial institutions transfer ownership records and financial instruments onto blockchain networks, they require secure infrastructure to safeguard tokenized assets and support their administration.
Custodians that expand beyond conventional cryptocurrencies into tokenized securities, stablecoins, and real-world assets can diversify their service portfolios and attract institutional customers.
Expansion of Institutional and Cross-Border Custody Services
Increasing regulatory clarity in major financial markets is creating opportunities for providers offering institutional-grade custody solutions. Financial organizations require services that support compliance, asset segregation, reporting, and cross-border transactions. Providers with established regulatory capabilities and secure infrastructure are well positioned to serve banks, investment managers, and corporate clients.
The Cold Storage segment dominated the market with approximately 62.2% share in 2025. Cold storage keeps private keys offline or isolated from continuously connected networks, helping reduce exposure to cyberattacks and unauthorized transactions. It is particularly important for institutions holding substantial cryptocurrency portfolios and other valuable digital assets over extended periods.
The Warm Storage segment supports assets requiring a balance between security and accessibility. Hot Storage enables faster access to assets for frequent transactions and trading activities. Demand across these environments depends on security requirements, transaction frequency, and the operational needs of individual clients.
The Cryptocurrencies segment led the market with approximately 63% share in 2025. Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other cryptocurrencies remain important assets for individual and institutional investors. The expansion of regulated investment products, corporate holdings, and institutional trading is increasing the need for professional cryptocurrency custody.
Stablecoins and digital money, tokenized securities, tokenized real-world assets, and non-fungible tokens also contribute to market demand. The growing adoption of blockchain-based financial instruments is encouraging custody providers to broaden supported asset types and blockchain networks.
The Core Custody and Key Management segment accounted for approximately 50% of the market in 2025. These services form the foundation of digital asset custody by protecting private keys, managing wallet infrastructure, authorizing transactions, and maintaining secure access controls.
Transaction and settlement services, staking and governance services, and tokenization and asset administration are also gaining importance. As digital assets become integrated into traditional financial activities, customers increasingly seek comprehensive platforms combining safekeeping with transaction processing and asset management capabilities.
The Financial Institutions and Institutional Investors segment held approximately 38.9% share in 2025. Banks, hedge funds, asset managers, investment funds, and other institutional participants require reliable custody services to safeguard digital assets and meet governance and reporting requirements.
Digital asset service providers, corporates, public-sector organizations, and private wealth clients also contribute to market expansion. Corporate treasury investments and the adoption of blockchain-based financial instruments are creating additional opportunities for professional custodians.

Cybersecurity Risks and Regulatory Complexity
Cybersecurity remains a significant challenge because custodians manage valuable digital assets that may attract cyberattacks, phishing attempts, insider threats, and private-key theft. A security breach can result in financial losses, reputational damage, and reduced customer confidence.
Volatility in Digital Asset Valuations
Fluctuations in cryptocurrency prices can affect the reported monetary value of assets under custody. Market downturns may reduce asset valuations and weaken investor demand, even when the quantity of assets held by custodians remains unchanged. Providers must therefore maintain resilient business models and diversify their service offerings.
Investment is increasing in secure custody infrastructure, advanced cryptographic technologies, institutional wallet systems, and integrated digital asset management platforms. Providers are developing solutions that combine secure storage with transaction processing, settlement, compliance monitoring, and reporting.
New Product Development
Digital asset custody providers are developing institutional platforms with improved access controls, multi-party computation, automated transaction policies, and enhanced reporting capabilities. These solutions are designed to help banks, investment managers, and corporate clients manage digital assets more efficiently.
Providers are also expanding support for stablecoins, tokenized securities, staking, and blockchain-based settlement. Integrated platforms that combine custody with additional financial services are expected to become increasingly important as institutional adoption grows.
