It's easy to set goofy lyrics to a melody and call it funny. It's even harder to craft a hilarious piece of music that's also, y'know, a good funny song. Doing just that is what separates the masters from the dregs of YouTube.

One of the countless things I love about Queen is that they're sometimes funny and they own it. For instance, I find the song "Bicycle Race" very funny. The lyrics crack me up! Not to mention, it's very cool musically. Also, it's clearly not necessary to psychoanalyze the lyrics of "Lazing On A Sunday Afternoon". It's one of my favorite songs! Absolutely beautiful music. And tongue-in-cheek words.

"Not That Funny" is a song by British-American rock band Fleetwood Mac, released in 1980. Composed and sung by guitarist Lindsey Buckingham, it was written as a response to the punk movement in the late 1970s.[3]

Buckingham performed his vocal part on the ground in a push-up position to achieve the desired vocal take. He also insisted on recording the vocals in a replica of his own personal bathroom, which was installed in Studio D of the LA Village Recorder. Engineer and co-producer Ken Caillat taped a microphone to the bathroom's tile floor to satisfy Buckingham's request.[4] Buckingham played the song on a Stratocaster guitar and treated the instrument with a variable speed oscillator (VSO). "I just slow the machine down, coming up with a picking part like that, double or triple it and tweak the VSO on either side so that it's slightly out of tune, and the whole thing comes out with all this phasing".[5] The song share some lyrics with "I Know I'm Not Wrong", another Buckingham penned song that appeared on the Tusk album.[6]

For the Tusk tour, the band wanted their keyboard tech, Jeff Sova, to play synthesizers on the song to recreate some of the additional sounds heard on the record. However, this idea was dropped as it was interfering with his stage work. Instead, the only keyboard used on the song was a Yamaha console piano, played by Christine McVie.[8]

"Not That Funny" has generally received positive reception. Stephen Holden, a reviewer for Rolling Stone, compared the production of the track to a beautifully recorded basement tape.[9] Another reviewer from Rolling Stone pointed similarities in the guitar work between "Not That Funny" and a Go Insane track, "Loving Cup".[10] Raoul Hernandez of The Austin Chronicle said that "Not That Funny" perfectly demonstrates Buckingham's ability to craft pop/rock songs, and that it reveals the "staleness" of Rumours.[11] In his review of Tusk for NME, Nick Kent described "Not That Funny" as "a Cajun-style bruising thump-up with a fade-out all too redolent of more White Album idiocies."[12]

\"I did the cooking and the cleaning and the groceries and the laundry. I fed the cat and the dog and someone stole my coffee. I got a gift for your mother she probably won't like. I paid a bill, wiped a butt, broke up a couple fights, then I just about lost my mind because we both took the kids to the park and someone said to you, 'You are such a good dad,'\" Farideh sings at the start of the song.

Farideh, whose new album \"The Mother Load\" focuses specifically on motherhood, said she was inspired to write and produce the song after she and her husband, Mark Ceaser, saw the double standard firsthand and how they were treated differently by other people after they became parents.

\"I thought what's annoying about being a mother is that people approach my husband because he's pushing a stroller in public, like he's literally not doing anything. He's doing the bare minimum,\" Farideh explained to \"Good Morning America.\" \"And then I told that to a few people and they're like, 'Oh, that's funny. You should write a song about that.' So then I was like, 'Oh, this would be a great idea.'\"

\"That's exactly what people say. They come up [to my husband] and they're like, 'You are such an amazing father,'\" Farideh said. \"And he is such an amazing father. But people don't approach a mother at a grocery store for doing groceries and child care. And that's kind of the the point of the song -- the contrast is quite different.\"

For Farideh, becoming a mother wasn't just a major life change, it ended up changing the course of her career as a musician. When she was just starting out, she didn't write songs about becoming a parent or motherhood because people in the music industry convinced her songs about such subjects wouldn't be picked up or sold.

\"You'd write a song and they're like, 'Oh, you talk about having kids in the song. You probably shouldn't because women really can't get away with being referred to as mothers. Men can [be seen as fathers] because it makes them more attractive, but when women are seen as mothers, they're less attractive. So, take that out of your song,'\" Farideh recalled.

It was an instruction Farideh said she took to heart and internalized. But right before the pandemic hit and when she left her former band, Rosie & the Riveter, she turned to content creation and soon realized other parents, especially fellow moms, were responding to her songs about motherhood.

\"I really wrote this song for moms. I want them to listen to this and think like, 'Oh, yeah, somebody sees me. Somebody knows what it's like to be at home for 24 hours with a snotty child who's teething. Like, that is a particular struggle in life,\" she said.

\"I hope that that they listen to the song, they laugh about their life, and they laugh into the chaos, and they just know that somebody sees me and has songs for me in this journey that I'm on,\" the singer-songwriter said.

\"I think mothers are looking for people to tell their stories so that they can see themselves reflected and I just get to have that honor,\" she added. \"I think there's just not that many songs about laundry, and I could write them.\"

Isobel Lennart's story, newly revised by Harvey Fierstein, traces Fanny's rise to fame and troubled relationship with gambler Nick Arnstein. But the musical is most famous for Jule Styne's songs. "People" and "I'm the Greatest Star" became instant classics when Barbra Streisand first sang them in the 1960s, and "Don't Rain on My Parade" is on lists upon lists of the greatest showtunes of all time.

Before any actors step on stage and sing, the orchestra plays an instrumental mashup of multiple Funny Girl songs to kick off the show. Overtures don't appear in many modern musicals, but they're a staple of Golden Age classics.

Most of Funny Girl is a flashback, where Fanny is reflecting on her and Nick's relationship while awaiting his return from prison. This song, in which Fanny hopes she and Nick have changed for the better as a result of knowing each other, was originally only in Act 2. The 2022 revival adds a short version in the beginning. "Are you something more than you were before... Did I give you too little by my loving you too much?" Fanny sings as the flashback begins.

Indeed, during the song, a casting director rejects Fanny for her looks. But aside from his verse, "If a Girl Isn't Pretty" isn't a mean-spirited song. Rosie laments how the world isn't always kind to those who are different: "If a girl isn't pretty like a Miss Atlantic City, all she gets in life is pity and a pat," Rosie sings.

"His Love Makes Me Beautiful" is the number that truly makes Fanny a Follies standout. She is dressed as a bride, singing a song of adoration for her husband. But Fanny, a skilled comedian, shocks everyone by appearing on stage "pregnant." She spins the romantic song into a comedic routine, leaving the audience in stitches and leaving her mark on the Follies.

"People who need people are the luckiest people in the world." This tender expression of love bookends one of Funny Girl's best-known songs. Nick and Fanny are falling quickly for each other, and they celebrate their newfound happiness by singing this song.

"Don't Rain on My Parade" is Funny Girl's most famous tune. Barbra Streisand delivered an iconic powerhouse performance in the original Funny Girl Broadway production and movie, making "Don't Rain on My Parade" her signature song.

This song originally appeared in Act 1, but shifted for the 2022 revival and is now listed as "Who Taught Her Everything She Knows?" The song's premise remains the same, though: Rosie and Eddie worry Fanny will leave them in the dust, and not give them any credit, as her star rises. When "Who Taught Her Everything?" was in Act 1, Rosie and Eddie sang it just after Fanny got cast in the Follies. Now, the song comes after Fanny has actually achieved success.

Styne wrote "Temporary Arrangement," a solo Nick sings about his ever-changing fortunes, for the original Broadway production, but the song was cut. It was ultimately cut for the movie, too. However, when Funny Girl received a 2016 London revival, the song was added back in to beef up Nick's role.
