After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Sound Recording Technology, Kate began her career as a post-production sound effects editor. Over the next several years, she worked her way up to being a supervising sound editor at Warner Bros. and then left to start her own studio, Boom Box Post, with business partner and fellow supervising sound editor, Jeff Shiffman.

Together, they lead post-production sound crews for animated television series. In addition, Kate also acts as the re-recording mixer on several series. Recently, Kate and Jeff have launched an additional venture, Boom Box Library, which creates custom sound effect libraries as well as software to aid in the sound design process. Over the course of her career, Kate has been nominated for MPSE Golden Reel Awards, Music + Sound Awards, and a Daytime Emmy. Now here's the mystery: When I solo the bounced track in my project, I just hear that single vocal--all as it should be. When I unsolo it, the track is suddenly doubled, and it sounds like it's picking up other take sections that were not in my original exported active comp. I tried again with a flatten/merged comp instead and it's still happening.

It should be noted that there's also a funny parody of a boy band called Dujour. Played by an uncredited group of four young actors (Seth Green, Breckin Meyer, Donald Adeosun Faison and Alexander Martin), the band opens the film as Fiona and Wyatt's current pet project -- until the boys get wise to the mysterious backing vocals on their new CD and have to be literally dumped from the label, or at least from the label's private jet. A good-humored Carson Daly, host of MTV's "Total Request Live," appears as himself, referring to his role as "a key player in the conspiracy to brainwash the world with pop music."
