MAKING A BOOKING

How do I make a booking?

You may view availability and make a booking online via our website. Booking slots are available up to 7 days in advance. If you need to book within 7 days of your event, please email funkyfairykidsparties@gmail.com and we will try to accommodate your request (please note we cannot guarantee a booking as our entertainers book out quickly!).


Please contact us if the event location is over 15km from Canberra CBD as a small travel charge may apply if the entertainer(s) need to travel further than 20km to their destination. Additional travel charges are charged at 85c/km.

I am trying to book online, but can’t see my preferred booking time?

If your preferred booking date or time is not showing (ghosted), it means that the time slot is fully booked for that package/service. Our face painting services are most popular and are usually the first to book out. You may need to try another time/date, otherwise, there may be availability for another package or service at your preferred day and time (our booking system automatically matches to the availability of our entertainers). 

How far in advance should I book?

We suggest booking at least 3-4 weeks in advance of your party or event, especially during busy times of the year. 

Do you only do bookings at peoples houses or can you attend venues as well?

We can provide our services just about anywhere! Private residences, parks, playgrounds and public spaces, play centres, community halls and licensed venues. Please note, for outdoor locations, our entertainers require a shaded and sheltered area. For autumn and winter bookings in Canberra, we ask for our entertainers to be set up inside (to avoid their hands being exposed to the cold). We highly recommend having an alternate venue in the case of poor weather.

How much of the party will you entertain for?

Our entertainer(s) will entertain for the full 2 hour booking. The time spent on each service will depend on the number of guests attending. Here is a guide:


Please note, if booking face painting, your face painter will not be able to entertain the guests while face painting as they will be engaged 1 on 1 with each guest. We suggest booking an additional entertainer if you wish to keep them entertained, or prepare some other activities to keep them busy while they wait.

When will the entertainer(s) arrive?

You can expect your entertainer to arrive approximately 10 minutes before the scheduled start time.

How much space is required?

A 2m x 2m (one or two entertainers), level space is needed for us to set up, preferably against a wall with good lighting. It takes approximately 5-10 minutes for us to set up. Set up and breakdown time is not charged as part of the Services.

What do you need us to provide?

We kindly request a table and two chairs to be provided in a clear space. We do also request that an additional table and chairs be provided for any packages that include craft. We ask this of our clients as our entertainers have other supplies they need to bring with them, and often have other parties before or after your booking which they will need to pack up and depart quickly. 

MANAGING BOOKINGS

Additional children may be attending. What happens if more guests show up on the day? 

As our services and packages are all time based, we charge a fixed price for a 2 hour booking. Additional fees will not be charged for 1-2 extra guests, however if you are expecting more than this, you may need to book a second entertainer or choose a package with fewer services included. Once you have made a booking, we ask that you clarify the number of expected guests with at least 24 hours’ notice and inform us of any changes to the expected guest numbers so that we can accommodate accordingly.

What happens if guests turn up late?

Please be aware that if a lot of guests show up late, or if you find that you have more guests than expected, we may not be able to accommodate everyone in the allotted time. In this case, the entertainer may need to drop one of the services to allow all guests to receive the other services. 


Some clients request a later time for their booking (i.e. 15 minutes past the party starting time) to allow time for all of the guests to arrive.

What happens if less guests actually show up on the day?

Your entertainer will use any remaining time with games or balloons if there are less numbers on the day or if they finish earlier than expected. 

What happens if we need to cancel?

Payments are refundable if we receive sufficient notice. Please understand that we have held the date of your event and most likely passed on other events in order to entertain for you. More information outlining our cancellation terms and conditions is provided in our service agreement before making a booking. Please be cautious when booking entertainers for outdoor events, having an alternate indoor plan for rain is highly recommended.

Do you take bookings for larger events?

Yes! We are booked regularly for larger events (Floriade, Summernats, Multicultural Festival etc) and have multiple entertainers available to accommodate events of any size. Please email us at funkyfairykidsparties@gmail.com to check availability and co liaise with us . 

CUSTOMISING BOOKINGS

Can additional games be included?

You may request in advance for our entertainers to facilitate pre-planned games (such as pass the parcel or pinata). While we are happy to accommodate your request, please be aware that the extra game(s) consume additional time and in most cases will need to replace one of the included services. Please also note that you will also need to supply any materials or equipment e.g. parcel or pinata. You may include your request in the 'Any other comments or notes to add?' section of the booking form during the booking process.  

We have used The Funky Fairy previously - can we book the same entertainer?

Bookings will depend on which entertainers have availability - our booking system will automatically match you to who is available at the time and date chosen. If the preferred entertainer has availability, we may be able to re-allocate the booking to them. You may include your request in the 'Any other comments or notes to add?' section of the booking form during the booking process.  

OUR ENTERTAINERS

What experience do Funky Fairy entertainers have?

Our talented entertainers have been recruited from backgrounds across education, childcare and creative and performing arts. Our team members have undertaken, or are undertaking, formal training in early education, primary education, acting, dancing, public speaking and specialised entertainment courses. In addition, all of our face painters have completed a reputable professional face painting course with The Face Paint Shop Australia.

Are Funky Fairy entertainers insured?

Our entertainers have Public Liability Insurance and also hold a WWVP (Working with Vulnerable People) or WWCC (Working with Children Check).

What are the costume options for the entertainer(s)? 

Currently, our entertainers can attend in a K-Pop, Princess Peach, Elsa or Fairy costume. Please note, we cannot always guarantee the costume you choose however we will do our best to match the entertainer to you! 

Does the entertainer need to attend in costume?

Not at all! If you do not wish the entertainer to attend in costume, they can attend in fun/ bright colours or our Funky Fairy t-shirt and casual pants/shorts.

What back-up do you have in the case that an entertainer is unwell?

We have a large team of entertainers and so we are usually (but not always!) able to provide back-up entertainers in the case of any cancellations. We will inform you of any changes to your booking as soon as we know, along with the contact details of the new entertainer.

Can photos be taken of the entertainer(s)? 

Of course! We often get satisfied customers sending photos of their child's party or event. This is great and really helps other parents to see our entertainers in action. If you have booked one of our entertainers for your party or event and would like to send in any pictures of the fun, it would be much appreciated! (Please make sure that you have the permission of any parents whose children are in the photographs.)

FACE PAINTING

Do you offer face paint designs for both boys and girls?

Yes! We offer a variety of face paint designs for boys and girls.

How many faces can you paint per hour?

Our face painters can paint approximately 10 faces per hour.

Can guests request a specific design?

Our face painters provide a menu of consistent designs, which allows them to maintain accuracy and efficiency. This means that they are unlikely to be able to accommodate custom requests - however our designs can be requested in any colours that they choose to personalise their look!

Does the paint have to be on my child’s face?

We understand that some children and adults have sensitive skin or dislike the feeling of paint on the face, so our face painters can adapt most designs to be painted on the arm or leg instead.

How long does the face paint last? 

Face paint can last all day, usually until washed off with soap and water. Ensure you wash it off before bed and don't leave face paint on overnight -  if it is worn for too long it can irritate the skin. Please be aware, we use water-based face paints, which are not sweat resistant and so may come off with rain or water play.  

How do I remove face paint?

Face paint can be removed by massaging a mild baby shampoo or facial cleanser into the skin and wiping paint away with a damp washcloth. Be mindful to keep paint and glitter out of eyes. 

How safe is face painting?

We use only high quality, water-based face paints and glitters which are generally a safe choice being cosmetic-grade and meeting FDA/EU standards. If you are concerned about skin irritation, a skin patch test can be carried out. Please note, it is the guardian’s responsibility to inform the entertainer of this in advance if this is the case. We cannot be held liable for any allergic reaction to the paint. 


As professional face painters, we follow strict hygiene rules:

Can you paint babies and toddlers?

We are unable to paint children under the age of 2 years old. Our insurance does not cover us for children under two years of age, this is because very young children have sensitive skin and reactions are more likely. Children over two may be painted at the discretion of the face painter, depending on the child and whether they want to be painted. Our face painters will not paint any child who does not want to be painted (regardless of how much the parent may want them to be done!)

Can my child have their face painted if they have a cold or rash?

Our face painters cannot paint anyone with a runny nose, rash, eczema, cold sore, or other skin complaint. This is for the health and safety of other people at the event. In these cases, a small hand or arm design may be possible instead. Our face painters reserve the right not to paint any persons they feel should not be painted. 

Where should the face painter be set up?

We usually ask for the face painter to be set up inside (as their hands are exposed to the elements) however in comfortable weather conditions, the face painter may agree to work outdoors.

Why do kids love face painting?

It's imaginative. Kids love dressing up and playing different roles. Whether they choose an animal, a superhero, or a character from their favourite book, face painting gives children the opportunity to be somebody else for a little while. They can role-play and have fun.

GLITTER TATTOOS

Do you offer glitter tattoo designs for both boys and girls?

We offer a variety of glitter tattoos designs suitable for all genders.

How many glitter tattoos can you apply per hour?

Our entertainers can apply approximately 20 glitter tattoos per hour.

How long do glitter tattoos last? 

Typically, glitter tattoos can last from 3 -7 days if treated with care.

Can you shower with Glitter tattoos? 

Glitter tattoos are waterproof, so yes, you can shower, bathe, and swim in the pool or in the ocean. Do not rub excessively or apply alcohol-based products such as perfume.

How can I make a glitter tattoo last longer?

You may apply baby powder, cornstarch, or talcum powder to the tattoo for an easy way to extend its life. These powders absorb the natural oils in your skin that break down temporary tattoo ink over time. Avoid hot water, scrubbing and rubbing, using lotions or oils, or picking at the design if you want your designs to last a long time. 

BALLOON MODELLING

Do you offer balloon designs for both boys and girls?

Our balloon models are non-gender specific and suitable for all. Our most popular designs are a dog, sword, flower, giraffe, and swan. 

How many balloon models can you make per hour?

Our entertainers can make approximately 20 balloon models per hour.

Why do the balloons sometimes pop?

The three main reasons balloons pop: humidity, pressure, and twisting. We recommend avoiding grass, and other sharp surfaces to prevent the balloon from popping. Our entertainers usually leave balloon modelling until the end of the party to avoid any premature popping!

How long do balloon models last?

Typically, balloon models can last several days to a week or more. Guests are encouraged to take their balloon creations home as delightful souvenirs, reminding them of the event's fun-filled moments. 

What are modelling balloons made from? 

Our balloons are made of latex, which is the resin of the rubber tree and is biodegradable.

MINI DANCE PARTY

How long is the mini dance party?

Our mini dance party runs for approximately 30 minutes.

What games are included in the mini dance party?

Our mini dance party games typically include musical statues/freeze dance, the floor is lava, limbo, magic hats, corners game, and free dancing with bubbles and ribbons (plus a quick dance competition if time allows!)

Can the mini dance party be held outside?

The dance party can be held outside if you prefer (however please note that lights will not be used as they will be ineffective in the daylight).
