FungalWorks creates games that explore the relationship between will, meaning, and transformation.
Many games treat mechanics as tools for domination, as systems designed for conquest, accumulation or optimization. At FungalWorks, we do things a little differently. Mechanics are used to explore perception, identity, and the choices that shape who we will become.
This studio's work is guided by a belief that interactive systems reveal that the way we act within a world (even a pretend one!) reshapes the self who is acting. A spell cast, a choice made, or a conflict either embraced or avoided is more than a tactical choice. It is a statement about what kind of person the player wishes to become.
FungalWorks builds games that invite players to experiment with meaning, to bravely confront the difficult questions posed by reality, to laugh, and to discover something marvelous about themselves in the process.
FungalWorks is an independent game studio based in British Columbia, Canada.
The studio is run by W.Kluge, a self-taught solo-developer working across design, programming, writing, and visual art. Drawing on a background in illustration, storytelling and systems design, FungalWorks creates startling games that combine narrative depth with expressive systems.
Rather than parting gameplay from story, the studio's work focuses on making mechanics that carry deep thematic resonance and meaning. Systems explore ideas around autonomy, identity, power and responsibility.
The studio's first release, Mortal Advocate, introduced these themes through a compelling narrative about dignity and self-worth. Future projects continue this exploration through experimental mechanics such as a language-based magic system and psychological-oriented forms of conflict.
FungalWorks operates as a deliberately small studio, allowing its projects to remain personal, experimental, and closely guided by a singular creative vision about what games can be.
