Built Environment for Energy Production, Storage and Transmission (BEST)

The BEST research group at Lancaster University works on the developement of novel advanced materials to turn the built environment such as buildings, roads and bridges into green energy prodcuction sources, large-scale energy storage batteries and power transmission lines. The Group combines Artificial Intelligence (AI), Big Data, Bottom-Up Simulation and Materials Science to accelerate the discovery of low-carbon intelligent structural materials that can inherently perform mutiple functions including load bearing, self-health monitoring, self-healing, renewable electricity generation, storage, and transmission and carbon capture and storage.

The Group is also working with the industry to assist in the developement of low-carbon cement and concrete composites using different types of waste streams.
