By the 2024 Oregon first-grade social science standards, I have curated a collection of 11 high-quality reading materials for first-grade students, integrating relevant themes and concepts. These readings encompass various genres, including fiction, non-fiction, and informational texts, catering to diverse reading levels such as emerging readers, novice readers, and fluent readers. For each book, I have meticulously annotated its genre, and suitable reader group, and provided a concise content summary. Additionally, I have elucidated the reasons behind selecting these particular readings for cultivating first-grade students' reading and writing abilities. This thoughtfully designed, diverse book list aims to ignite students' reading interests, subtly establishing relevant vocabulary, fostering multicultural understanding, community awareness, and geographical knowledge, and laying a solid foundation for enhancing their overall language proficiency.
