United Methodist Church worldwide and through local groups has invested in a wide variety of solar projects to reduce greenhouse gases for the stewardship of creation, to save money, to bring power to neglected people, and to model our care for God's creation.
Yes, installation of solar panels has begun on the roof of Bartula Family Life Center. So far you can only see the brackets. The plan is to install a 182kW system consisting of 376 panels, which is expected to produce over $14,000 worth of electricity annually for twenty-five years. The installation is the result of a $200,000 gift for this purpose. We hope to see the panels completed and working soon.
On November 9, at 9:45, in the Chapel, you can hear the Rev. Dr. Mel Caraway, Caretaker of God’s Creation Coordinator for the Horizon Texas Conference, speak about solar power and eco-theology.
Here is a map of solar projects large and small from UMC churches and agencies around the world. This map was made in 2024, and many other projects have been completed since then
Here are slides of over forty UMC-related solar projects.
More than a hundred are listed in this spreadsheet, but the list is not exhaustive.
