The Details

During the period of Lent, we will walk in prayerful solidarity for the more than 28,000 killed since October 7.  Then on Good Friday, we will come together to walk 2.5 miles (representing the 25 miles of the Gaza Strip).

We will gather in the parking lot of First United Methodist Church of Arlington (313 N. Center St. Arlington, TX 76011) at 10:00 AM on Friday, March 29.

Following the walk, we are planning a possible lunch a nearby restaurant.  Rather than paying for your meal, we invite you to make a donations to United Methodists for Kairos Response.  (More information below)

On Good Friday, post a photo to social media with a "why you walk" statement and #GCPilgrimage #PilgrimageForPeace #PermanentCeasefireNow

What is a Pilgrimage?

A pilgrimage is a sacred journey, a prayer with one's body - be it by foot, or wheelchair, or on an animal - to a destination with the desire to turn one's heart to God, and share in God's heart for all of creation, particularly the vulnerable.

What is the Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage?

The Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage is a network of autonomous Christian groups with shared convictions who are engaging in a prayerful show of solidarity in cities around the world, where people during Lent will walk the length of the Gaza strip.

What do we want?

Why do we walk?

“As disciples of Christ, we are called to love our enemies, seek justice, and serve as reconcilers of conflict. We insist that the first moral duty of all nations is to work together to resolve by peaceful means every dispute that arises between or among them. … We believe that human values must outweigh military claims as governments determine their priorities.” (Social Principles of the United Methodist Church ¶165.C)

DONATIONS FOR UNITED METHODISTS FOR KAIROS RESPONSE (UMKR)

In addition to walking, we invite you to donate to support the work of United Methodist Kairos Response.

What is UMKR?

In October 2010, United Methodist clergy and laity from around the United States came together in a grass roots effort to respond to the “Kairos Palestine Document.” This document is an urgent plea from Christians in the Holy Land for decisive action in support of a just peace. It is a powerful call to churches around the world to go beyond merely talking about peace and take real steps to help bring a just peace to the people of Israel and Palestine.

UMKR seeks, through nonviolent means and in partnership with Palestinian Christians, freedom, justice and equality for all Palestinians and Israelis.

Today UMKR's advocacy has several areas of focus:

•  DIVESTMENT and BOYCOTT campaigns and actions that focus on businesses' and institutions' complicity in Israeli apartheid and the ethnic cleansing of Palestine.

•  POLITICAL ACTION that supports human rights and international law

•  RESPONSIBLE TOURISM in the Holy Land

•  EDUCATION about the history and current conditions in Palestine and Israel, and the message of Palestinian Christians in "Kairos Palestine."

The Route

Leading up to our in-person walk, you may use the below interactive map to pray for specific regions throughout the period of Lent.  The points on the map are 2 miles apart.  If you click on the hiker image, you'll see a picture of the specific area in Gaza.  We recommend starting at the top of the Gaza Strip, which is labeled as Point 1 on the map.

You may also wish to print or share a non-interactive map.  You may copy and paste the image below for a sharable map that is not interactive.
