My name is Marcelline Fuerch, but most people know me as Marcy. My husband, Michael, and I moved to Clay County, NC in June of 2021 with our three children. Elam, (age 11) is in 6th grade at Hayesville Middle School, Pella (age 9) is in 4th grade at Hayesville Elementary School, and Amos (age 6) is in 1st grade at Hayesville Primary School.
We moved to Hayesville to be closer to family. In searching for a home, we explored many counties in both North Carolina and Georgia. After spending time in this area, we knew that Clay County was where we wanted to raise our children. This community is such a unique and welcoming place that even our daughter, Pella, noticed the difference at just four years old. While walking at the Chatuge Dam during one of our visits, she turned to me and said, “Mommy, people are so friendly here!” — and I couldn’t agree more. While I didn’t grow up here myself, I am incredibly grateful to be raising my family in this community, and we are proud to call Hayesville our home.
Outside of family and volunteer work, I am a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) and adjunct professor. Most of my experience as an SLP has been working with children who have more significant disabilities, and I’m passionate about helping families develop functional modes of communication. Additionally, I serve within the Teacher Education Department at the University of Mount Saint Vincent, where I created and teach an asynchronous online course for graduate students in education. The course focuses on language and cognitive development.
I’m running for the school board because I care deeply about preserving and strengthening what makes our schools exceptional. I believe that my experience and perspective will bring valuable insight to the board as we work to support our educators, partner with families, and help ensure that every child continues to feel challenged, and valued.
I’d be honored to earn your support.
